BJUNBKlDGE, GA., JULY 12, 1912.
Congressman Underwood is a
strong man and will some day be
called to a higher position. But
some of the paper supporthim
are still ranting and kicking.
They should be informed that
“the war is over.”
The Progressive party movement
has already begun to assume
shape tn the various states in the
Union. He is a badly mistaken
man who thinks this party will
not amount to anything. There
are other men of great power
packing it up besid» s Rosevelt
the Democrats, as wellas the
Republicans, will have to contend
with it. In our opinion it means
the ultimate death of the Repub
lican party. It will be the prin
cipal rival of thd Democratic
party four years from now. They
are even now organizing in
Georgia and will likely have can
didates in the field for all the
states offices. It need not be
surprising if the new party has
candidates to fill the various posi
tions in most of the counties.
The Democrats should not go to
sleep. They should be up and
about their business.
pellagra.
Some meal of this kind is being
shipped here from somewhere.
If it is coming from the West
the wholesale and retail mer
chants, as well as the consumers,
shoule rise up and stop the stuff
from being shipped here. The
pure food law should be enforced
and the companies shipping such
legislature if the people will care
fully select their representatives,
and if I am chosen by the people
to act in this capacity it will give
me genuine pleasure to serve them
to the very best of my ability. ^
I jpaye lived in Decatur county
for 9 ye^rs. f /ring all this
period I nave resided in the
towns of Doifilsonville and Lela,
meal should be prosecuted to the . but expect sometime in the near
full extent. If it is coming from; future to move my residence to
nearer home it would be an'easy! the city of Bainbridge. I make
matter to locate it.
Only a few weeks ago a man
died in the lower part of the
county from pellagra. He was
attended by Dr. L. D. Berry of
Faceville who said it was one of
the most aggravated cases he
had ever seen. The patient was
nearly dead from the terrible
this statement inasmuch as I
deem it fair to state in the be
ginning that I favor a division of
our county in the manner pro
vided in the bill introduced in the
last legislature. I own property
in both the eastern and western
portions of the county, and as
stated, I expect to make the
FOR SOLICITOR GENERAL ALBANY 1
CIRCUIT.
Aspiring to re-election to the
office or Solicitor General of the
Albany Circuit, subject to the
c.:suing Drimary, I announce my
dSindidacy for that office, which
by the grace of the people I have
heretofore held without opposi
tion. I trust that the white
voters of this circuit, to whom my
candidacy for re-election is to be
submitted in the primary, will
regard my experience as pros
ecuting attorney as being of some
value to the public interests and
my record as such officer as
meriting my re-election.

GONERNOR WOODROW WILSON.
The editor of the Search Light
l'eels a special, personal joy and
delight in the nomination of
Woodrow Wilson as the Demo
cratic candidate for President.
It is in no spirit of boasting when
we say that we do not believe
there was another country news
paper in the state of Georgia that
fought quite so hard, and against
such overwhelming odds as did
the Search Light. The tight was
all good natur^dly however, and
in no spirit of bitterness.
We were licked to the amount
of less than 25 votes, but we
took the drubbing in the proper
spirit, and said if the man we
fought should receive the nomi
nation we would pull for him.
We hope now, that Woodrow
Wilson is the nominee, those who
opposed him in the primary, will
support him as the party's nomi
nee.
It has been proven before and
since the nomination that Wilson
is the most popular Democrat in
the country, lie is regardad as
such front Maine to California.
It is the opinion everywhere now
that he will be elected by a tre
mendous majority in November.
If Wilson is elected the people
of Georgia will be happy in the
fact that the Mistress of the
White House is a native Georgia
woman. This kind of state pride
caused the Search Light to tight
harder for Wilson?
Hon. Thomas R. Marshall of
Indiana, who has been nominat
ed as running mate with Gover-
norWilson, is one of the strong
est Democrats in the country.
The two make a pair that will be
hard to down by any party or
power.
It looks now as if the Demo
crats will win a great victory in
November,
called to see him. Nothing could
be done to check it and the poor
fellow had to give up his life,
probably because he had been
eating damaged meal shipped
from the West or from some
where else.
We are not a physician] but
one thing we do know, and that
is when we get hold of a piece of
corn bread that is dark and bit
ter and not fit for a human being
to eat. People should quit eating
such stuff.
The best remedy is to get meal
made from corn selected from
the cribs of our own section, and
ground in the mills of our own
communities, If such meal as
this can be had, the bread made
from it is white and sweet, and
we have not yet been made to
believe that pellagra is not caused
by eating bread made from such
meal.
For Representative.
To the White Voters of Djca-
tur County:
I am a candidate for the legis
lature of the State of Georgia,
careful study of the question,
however, has demonstrated to
me beyond a doubt that when
county is sufficiently large to
divided, the financial condition
and general wellfare of the peo-
are generally improved in that
portion of the county from which
the new county is made, while
the growth of that portion re
maining is not in any respect re
tarded. Decatur is one of the
largest counties in the State, and
I believe this legislation would
be to the interest of all her peo
ple. I make this statement can
didly and openly so that the peo
ple may know in the beginning
where I stand.
As above stated many ques
tions of State wide importance
will come up for consideration in
the next Legislature, and if elect
ed a member to that body it will
be my earnest purpose and am
bition to help to accomplish some
thing that will redound to the
permanent benefit of the people.
Thanking each and every one
who may support me, I am most
respectfully, your fellow citizen,
P. S. CUMMINGS.
My attendance on the courts of
this circuit and the proper dis
charge of the exacting duties of
ray office will preclude the possi
bility of my making a thorough 1
personal canvass of the circuit,
but I am sure that these condi
tions will be understood and
appreciated.
I respectfully solicit, and shall
be sincerely grateful fora favor-
ble consideration of my candi-
acy for re-election by the quali
fied voters of this circuit.
Respectfully,
William E. Wooten.

For Solicitor General.
I am a candidate for the office
of Solicitor General of the Albany
and make this my announcement! Judicial Circuit, subject to the

gust primary. In my opinion this
office is one of the most import
ant in the gift of the people, for
ensuing state primary.
I earnestly solicit frlTi every
one a careful considers on of my
candidacy. r
For every vote that may be
it is directly through their repre-1 cast for me, I make the pledge
sentatives in the legislature that of a fair andj**thful discharge
the voice of the people is heard °f
on all public matters of State e ec e
that concern them most. This
being true, the peoDleare entitled
to know for what the various
candidates stand who aspire to
this important office. I can not
