his best to infuse new life into
all the rqral schools. He will be
ably assisted in this work by the
excellent corps of teachers
throughout the county. No ru
ral community in the county or
in the state as for that matter,
should be satisfied with anything
less than a high school. Tnis
would insure all the boys and
girls getting a good, high school

adopted. We are in favor of a

The parcels post system is go
ing to work well in Decatur
county, according to statement
of the postoffice officials here.
Every community will be inter
ested in that the people in the
outlying districts will have more
or less products all the time to
be sending into the rity either to
the merchants or to private in
dividuals. In this connect on it
will be well enough to watch the
spread of the rural telephones.
It will be only a question of time
when telephones will be in most
of the farm houses. When this
is accomplished and with the
years. This will put the leaders
of that party on their metal to
do the very best that is in them
to make laws and change exist
ing laws so that the country as
a whole will receive the greatest
benefit. The parcels post comes
in for the first year’s trial in
1913. This is something the
people have been looking for
with great hope and the first
year’s tryout is expected to prove
that the system is a great bles
sing. The Panama canal will be
practically completed this year,
while the formal opening will
probably not take place till the
year 1915. These are some of
the great things to interest the
people of this country. Other
things, many of them unlooked
for, will spring up, so that this
year will not be an idle for
America. The Balkan question

The Search Light wants to see opened up in Decatur county a
Model Farm community. This is not said to make the impression
that there no good farms in the county. There are a number of
good farms and good farmers. But what we mean is, we want to
see some of the large sections of land now lying idle, cut up into
small farms, with good cottages built on them, and with good,
thrifty farmers living in these cottages. Such an arrangement
would make a thickly settled community, where they could have
the best of school advantages, good churches and everything neces
sary to the enjoyment of a great farm neighborhood. There could
be at least thirty such settlements in Decatur county.
