Decayed or Broken
Teeth.
Strange to say, in these days of advanced dentis
try, the first thought of most penple, when a decay
ed, broken or aching tooth is discovered, is to have it
“pulled;” when by all that’s reasonable, extraction
should be resorted to only as the last and extreme
measure.
Teeth are too valuable to be lost without an ef
fort to save them. It is my firm conviction that 90
per cent, of the extractions are unnecessary. The
teeth could and should have been saved and the den
tist who resorts to extraction without first showing
his patient that a little filling or crowning of the
tooth will save it indefinitely, is indifferent, to say
the least, to that patient’s welfare.
I never advise extraction unless as a last resort
of relief.
