Whether the Great War continues or not, Uncle Sam has got to furnish
food for the world for months to come.—This means high prices for com,

Dear Mary:—
You asked me my opinion about chairs, Well I’ll
tell you: Chairs are used a great deal and should be
strong and comfortable. They reflect the spirit of
a hostess. I’ve visited where the very chairs said:
“Gome in and make yourself at home," and I’ve call
ed where the chairs “hoped you won’t stay long.’’
So be careful in picking out your chairs. Get
easy ones and they will help you makedriends.
Your true friend--HELEN,

The Southeaster Claim Confer

embraces all common carriers
covering the territory South of
the Ohio and East of the
Mississippi Rivers, will hold their
annual meeting at Lanaak, Jan.
16-17th, 1917. This body of men
is the mainstay of the Freight
Claim Hssociation, having origin
ated and put into effect the pre
sent method of handling claims,
so highly commended by the
Interstate Cormerce Commission, i
the effect being the settlement
or rejection of 90 per cent of
claims presented within fifteen j
days. This revolution of claim 1
handling is termed by those whoj
are famlair with the intricate:
details asj the “Eight Wonder of j
the World.” Having accompli-j
shed this remarkable feat, this ;
association is naturally recogni- 1
zed as one of the most import-;
ant in the country.
We have every reason to feel !
flattered over the prospects of j
entertaining these claim officials, I
having secured the convention j
for Lanark in the face of sharp!
competition on the part ot New|
Orleans and Mybile as well as|
Jacksonville. To hold this meet-j
ing at Lanark is o distinct com- j
pliment to the G. F. and A. as!
well as to Lanark and our pre
parations for the entertainment
of the delegates and theii fam-
lies are on a scale surpassing
any previous event. We are go
ing to make them feel that they
are glad they came and confi
dentially look torwark to the re
turn of a number to spend their
vacations with us. We have
gone to no mean expense to en
tertain this association, having
arranged for through Pullman
service from Atlanta direct to
Lanark. As several important
subjects are doketed for discus
sion, there will be in attendance
several General Managers and
Executives, the General Mana
gers, Association to be officially
represented by Mr. Moultrie
Hitt, Secretary. Thelpresence of
pullmans and private sidetrack
ed at Lanark will present a
pleasing appearance.
These annual meetings are al
ways scheduled in January at
southern points to enable the
members and their famlies to
Cuba Porto Rico and the
Bahamas.
As there will be quite a num
ber of lady folks, Mrs. T. M.
Sollar has planned a series of
entertainments far them. In ad
dition to this, either the Cresent
City or J. P. Williams will be
used to Snapper Banks, Dog
Island, St. George Island and
other watering places. After the
business session January 17th,
we will have a bbanquet alter
which a dance, the music to be
furniseed by the Bainbridge
Band, To enable dancing
parties from Bainbridge, Quincy
and Tallahassee to atten, we will
operate a special train to leave
Bainbridge on the afternoon of
January 17th, to reach Lanark
in pleanty of time to enjoy a
bountiful supper. The details of
train handling, etc., are now be
ing worked out by our General
managor, Mr. Coleman.
This is the first of a number of
conventions to be held at Lan
ark. From the present outlook,
we expect to entertain during
the coming year the following
associations: General Managers
Association, Accounting Officers
Association, Association of Trans
portation Officers. National
Freight Agents Association. Lan
ark seems to be approaching the
most successful year of it’s
history.

APPRECIATION
That the farmers of Decatur county ap
preciate the excellent facilities that have
been provided in our plant for meat curing
is evidenced by the fact that more than nine
ty thousand pounds of meat have been plac
ed in storage for curing during the past six
ty days.
No other cold storage plant in Georgia
is equipped to handle the farmers’ meat in
as perfectly sanitary and highly satisfactory
manner as is the plant built for the farmers
of Decatur county.
We want to again remind you that our
meat curing plant is kept open for business
throughout the entire year and that you can
now be making plans for having hogs ready
for killing next summer when meat will com
mand a higher price than it does during the
winter season.
