LESLIE COULSON
(Killed in Action, Ocl. 7. 1916)
“ ’Twill be good pay!” It is the only re
ward they ask— these fighting men of ours
— to come home, victorious. It is the debt
we owe—can we pay it in full? No. But
we can do all we can do.
Save and try in some small way to pay
our debt to those who have fallen. Save
honorably—make a religion of it—nothing
we can do today here at home touches so
closely the heart of life. For saving saves
life. Bonds save life. If you buy greatly
you will help some strong, clean American
boy, in whose heart is ringing the words
“when I come home”—really to win through
—to return to us—a victorious crusader—
a mother’s son—alive and well and home
again!

Housewives Released
From Wheatless Pledge
Housewives throughout the country
who patriotically put their homes on
a wheatless basis last spring have
been released from their pledges to
the Food Administration to go abso
lutely without wheat. This release
was merely from the voluntary pledge
to go entirely without wheat until
new harvest. Housewives will
continue to purchase the required
amount of wheat substitue with their
wheat flour.
Coming i* of the new wheat crop
has made it possible for the Nation
to go back partially to its old habits
of eating. But the uncertainties of
war and the necessity for building
up a food reserve are incentives to
caution, even in the face of a good
crop.
As the available supply of wheat
diminishes or increases so does the
|u. S. Food Administration according
ly change its rulings as to the use of
wheat flour.
So as to cover every possible rul
ing that might be made by the Food
Administration, a little booklet of
Selected Recipes for War Times has
I been especially prepared for the pa
triotic housewives of America.
Every recipe has been carefully se
lected, prepared and tested in a mod
ern experimental bakery and labora
tory by a housewife, domestic science
expert and food analyst. The recipes
| range from those calling for all wheat
| to those calling for no wheat flour.
I No matter what kind of a war re-
, cipe you are looking for you can find
lit in “Selected Recipes for War
I Times." This splendid little booklet
lean be had fer the asking. Simply
1 write CALUMET BAKING POW-
jDER COMPANY, 4100 Fillmore St.,
I Chicago, 111., and it will be sent you
i postpaid. Save the needed wheat flour
—use your substitutes flours and
help win the war.
CALOMEL MAKES
YOU SICK. UGH!
It has been observed that several
Bainbridge ladies have given their en
tire premises, from the front gate
through the cow lot, a thorough clean
ing. The houses have evenly been
cleaned from underneath and lime
sprinkled all around, here, there, and
yonder; from the front door to the
kitchen has been made spotless, eve
rything about the home has been put
in tip-top shape; the spare bedroom
has been cleaned in every nook nnd
comer,bed thoroughly sunned, fresh
linens profusely used; every bill paid
up, and a supply of groceries order
making ready for the “Flu” when, in
anticipation, it willstrike their home.
The above things have actually hap
pened in Bainbridge and probably in
many other towns and localities.
It is rather unfortunate that peo
ple wait until the “fear” of the “Flu”
invades their minds before giving
their premises a good cleaning, for
every thinking man and woman knows
that to keep a home, and all sur
roundings, sanitary, will make said
home less liable to contract a disease.
Much has been said and written on
sanitation and from the beginning of
the world it has paid folks to keep
weeds cut down, and sill surround
ings thoroughly clean for to keep off
sickness this is one of the very best
preventatives known. Folks,how about
cleaning up YOUR PLACE IF YOU
NEVER HAVE THE “FLU?” It
will certainly do no harm and it might
do good. You can get disinfectants
free to use around your premises by
calling at the Fire Department. Try
the remedy and see how it Works.

“Dodson’s Liver Tone” Better Than
Calomel and Can Not Salivate.
Calomel loses you a day! You know
what calomel is. It’s mercury; quick
j silver. Calomel is dangerous. It
, crashes into sour bile like dynamite,
attacks the bones and should never be
cramping and sickening you. Calomel
put into your system.
| When you feel bilious, sluggish, con
stipated and all knocked out and be
lieve you need a dose of dangerous
calomel just remember that your drug
gist sells for a few cents a large bot

entirel yvegetable and is a perfect sub
stitute for calomel. It is guaranteed
to start your liver without stirring
you up inside, and can not salivate.
Don’t take calomel! It makes you
sick the next day; it loses you a day’s
work. Dodson’s Liver Tone straight

was a dull ache constantly in the
