stab Jhw* MACON, GA. Thursday, November 12, 1857. THE REGULATORS IN TOWN, The good people of Macon were sorely puz fclcd last Sunday morning by the. duings on the previous night of a set of wild young bucks, who call themselves “Regulators” and set everything “to wrongs”—on the principle, we presume, of lucus a non lucendo, Signs. &c., mysteriously disappeared, and things in general were turned “topsy-turvy.” By some strange metamorphosis, Day & Maisexett’s Big Watch was converted into an enormous cabbage; the Ice House sign was posted near the residence of a citizen who grew warm, in stead of raw/, by its proximity; Belden s Large Hat (much to the chagrin of Vic Menard) made a visit to— the “buys' know where ; but. strangest of all, some daring fellow trans planted a certain Flag to the pinnacle ot the new Presbyterian Church where, in the morn ing’s sun, amid the ringing ot bells, it floated to the breeze of Heaven, bearing aloft the proud motto of Pug V’s Daoverrean Gallery ! This last feat “capped the climax,” and gave occasion to several execrable “puns.” () citizen —much given to such witticism- -!••• marked that it was strange the Presbyter:a:is should have a Pugh (pew) in their church steeple; whereupon another (who would, least of ail, be suspected of such a thing—we will Dot expose him by giving his name) this wretch dryly inquired who bad "tak<u" the" Pugh"' there? Jt is our painful duty to record that both of these “puns” haw been followed by alarming symptons. One of the gentlemen is regarded j as a hopeless case; the other is undergoing a course of depletion—ice is kept constantly to Lis head, ami bis friends have s<»i: ■ hope that by adhering to a low diet and avoiding all “pirns” in future, he may eventually recover, although the chances arc now sadly against him. YOUNG MEN S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION. The reader is referred to our sccoml page for a rv]K»rt «»i Judge Nisbet's Address before the Macon Young Men’s Christian Association. Jt should have appeared last week, but wa handed in too late for insertion. We avail ourselves of this occasion to commend the As sociation and its objects to the young men of I he city. Its members deserve the thanks ami en couragement of the community for their lamla dable efforts in providing the public with in tellectual entertainment in the course of Lec tures which they propose furnishing during the winter—to be delivered by different distinguish ed speakers. We will try to publish regular reports of the Lectures for the benefit of our readers. Dead and Bi i:iei>. Our City Court has departed this life, after a short ami nscl.’.-' ex istence. It ought never to have been born, 41 nd wo are ghtd that it is now out of the way. The Legislature, on lhe 7th inst., very prop r ly repealed the A<-t rsCddishing it. Since the above was written, we learn that the Bill of Injunction aia'ii-t J. M. Boahdm \x was discussed yesterday by E. A. and J. A. NssUET. on the part of the City Council, and Lanj ek A Axidetjson, on the part of the cow plaiaanls, whereupon Judge Powers after dm deliberation, dissolved the Injunction, and Mr. i>oAi.’!»MAN is authorized to proceed with Jii %v < irk. Fire.—Just before jnidjiigJ.f, on lhe 7th inst., a fire broke out at 11k* residence ot (apt. Sullivan, on Mulberry street, near the Reforjn Medical College. Our active tire companies as lisaud, were promptly on the spot, and soon arrested the flames —consequently the damage was Tnvonsiderablv, being confined to the Ire— of the outhouses. The premises, we believe, areewuftl by Judge Powers. Railroad to Brunswick.—Last Saturday. Mr. Atkinson, Senator from Camden County, introduced into the Legislature a Bill to lend the credit of the State to the Br : wick Rail road Company. It provides i; ■ upon the; completion of each twenty miles of road the State shall endorse the coupon bonds of the Company to the amount of seven thousand dollars per mile. If the Bill passes, the Macon and Brunswick Railroad will be reduced to a Jijvd fart, Superior Court, —The Superior Court “in *md for the County of Bibb,” commenced its session ip fids city on Monday—Hon. A. P. Powers presiding. Wu will endeavor next week to give #i| account of the principal cases. Outrage:—We are informed that on last Saturday night, about the time of the tire, on of our citizens, Mr, Doyle, a Plasterer by trade, was assaulted by several attaches of M v jiik & Oo’« Circus, and has since suffered great ly from the injuries received at their hands. The rowdies, we are sorry to say, were suffered to go unpunished. Financial.—Money matters at the North are becoming decidedly easier, In New York, money is mure plentiful- securities of the bet ter class are looking up. and the resumption of specie payment is anticipated in January. This is certainly good news. It is a long road that has no turn. Usury Laws. —The Grand Jury of Houston County recommends the Legislasure to abolish the existing Usury Laws. A good move. We will have something to say on this subject here after. The Bank of Middle Georgia at Macon—to its honor l>e it said—still continues specie pay ment. TO THE’YOUNG FOLKS. The Enigma by A. R. IL in our last, has been correctly answered by IL A. C., ot But ler, IL B. S. of Savannah, and C. T. ot Macon. The solution is “The Georgia Military Insti tute.” Want of space pi -vents our publishing the answer in full. IL A. ( . sends us another puzzle, and we are also iu.k-bted to Masters 1. B. and L. W. G. of this city, for two Enigmas. They will have a showing in our next. The pressure of political matters crowds out every thing else this week. 2 NOTH E Inhalation in Consumption.
