the report were made the special orderfor Mon
day next.
Many bills of a local character were aeted
upon, alter which the House resumed the un
tinished business of yesterday, and passed the
bill grunting a Charter to the Hiwassee Rail
Rond. It will be remembered that at the last
session of the Legislature this bill passed both
Houses, but received the Executive veto. On
its passage to-day the vote stood yeaa 79, nays
52. It is thought that the action of the Sen
ate, relative to its passage, will be similar to
that of the House. If this bo the case the Go
vernor will sanction the bill.
Nothing was done in the Senate to-day a.ide
from bills of a local character, save the pas
age of a bill to amend the claim laws of this
State as to the affidavit to be interposed by
the claimant. Yours,
TeMI'LI.

MACON AND ITS PROSPECTS.
Our City is quite a different looking place in No
vember,’s7, from what it was in November, *56.
Twelvemonths ago a destructive fire laid the cant re
of the town in ruins ; but what seemed a calamity
then, has since proved to be a great advantage. On
the site of the old wooden tenements that long re
mained an eye-sore to our citizens, have been erect
ed substantial ornamental brick buildings -otherim
provements are also going on in the business parts
•of the place- the hills are dotted with new and hand
some private residences, and upon the whole, old Ma
con is beginning to assume a rejuvinated appearance. i
Notwithstanding the hard times, our merchants are
doing a fair business ; and, what is better still, the
trade is steadily increasing. True, there is not the
same show and bustle which there was a few years ;
since when cotton wagons thronged the streets, but
much more is done in a quiet way. The Kailroads
have wrought a great change, and through their in
strumentality, our city is destined to become one of
the greatest internal Depots in the country.
BLIND ASYLUM.
We were greatly disappointed at not bring able,
from ay>ro<»of other engagements, to avail oarselves
of an invitation, last Wednesday, to attend an exami
nation at the Georgia Academy for the Blind. The
exercises, we are informed, were highly satisfactory
to the visitors, and equally creditable to the Teachers
and their pupils. It is their intention to viait the
* Capit d during the session in order to give the legis
lature a practical illustration of the great good that
has already been effected by the Institution. An
application will, also, be made for an additional ap- ’
propriation to make necessary improvements at the
Academy. We heartly join with our city cotempo
raries in urging upon our Senators and Representa
tives a favorable response to an appeal for such a
benevolent purpose.

This paper announces that it will be able, by the
late change of Schedule, to appear in Macon at an
early hour every morning instead of 11 o’clock as
heretofore This will place it in the power of our citi

We cheerfully recommend the Sun as a racy, intwr-

sustain a daily of its own, the next best thing will be
tn patronize a first rate paper like this, published near
home. We hope some of our friends will send it over
a long list of subscribers from this place.
The Sun luw lately’ devoted considerable attention
to Macon mattars publishing items of m«»s of the
