The House, on the same day, was engaged
on the ;anny hill, and it was thought probable |
that a vote would betaken on it the subsequent

March 19.—Tn the Senate to-day no action
swas taken on the Kansas Bill.
In the House Mr. Quitman’s Army Bill was
passed by a large minority.
The deficiency Bill was then taken up.
March 20.—The Kansas debate continued all
■day in the Senate. Messrs. Foote, of Vt., Sim
mons, of R. 1., ami Bright, of Indiana, made
speeches to-day; and Messrs. Stuart, of Michi- I
gan. and Wilson, of Massachusetts, will speak
to-night on the same subject.
In the Ifonse, the deficiency bill was discus- ;
sed. and a running debate on Kansas.
March 22. —The Senate was discussing the
Kansas bill to-day.
The House is still in Committee of the whole
on the deficiency bill, but the Kansas question
wider discussion.

The returns of all the conferences and mis- |
•sions of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the
United States, forty-seven in number, have
been officially received by the authorities of
that numerous and influential religious de
nomination, and the result furnished the fol
lowing statistics:

ers, five thousand three hundred and sixty

hundred and ninety-eight: in 1854 four thous
and eight hundred and fourteen; increase over
the previous year, tour hundred and sixty

It appears that the religious excitement and
the atteudauco at prayer-meetings are not con
fined to New York city. lu Boston, prayer
laeetings are held every morning at the Chafe
el of the Old South Church, on Spring lane,
commencing at half-past eight o'clock aud con- I
tinning for three-quarters of an hmtr. Ar
rangements have been winds- to begin another
daily prayer meeting in State street.
In Cincinnati the various evangelical pastors
have ofwued the lecture-room <4 the First
Presbyterian church for a morning prayer
ueeting. It commences at half-paut eight o'-
clock and continues for an hour.
Every town from New London to Provi
dence. along the coast, has been subject to in
tense religious feeling.
lu Hartford three lecture rooms ol churches
are every day filled with attendants at prayer
inoetings. Many conversions have taken place
rn the church, including a dozen young ladies
belonging to die Hartford Female .Seminary. I
The revival extends even to California, and
we read of numerous conversions iu Sun Fran
cisco and Sacramento.
In Hollidaysburg, Pa., more than one hun
dred ainversioms have recently occurred in the
Methodist church, of which the Rev. J. M.
Cooper is Pastor. In Utica the revival is ex
tending very generally to the churches. In
the Corn Hill church one hundred and forty
five accessions have recently been made. In
Portsmouth, N. 11.. large additions have been
made to the Baptist and other churches. In
Schenectady, N. Y., a number of students of
Uniou College have been converted. In New
Bedford, Mass., a revival has been in progress
for two months. The conversions are about
two hundred, two-fiftli-s of which luive occur
red in four Methodist churches, nearly as many
as three Congregational, and over one-fifth in
the Baptist society. In Portland, Me., sixty
persons were recently milled to the Congress
street Methodist church. In Imbuque. lowa,
several churches are experiencing revivals. In
Newark, N. J., the revival continues to spread I
with great rapidity.— Jlultimore Sun.
Petrified.—ln removing some bodies from
an old grave yard in Allenton, Penn., recently,
two bodies were found to be petrified—one
perfectly, and tjie other partly so. The one
was found to be almost as perfect ns if appear
<ed in life, but turned into a solid stmie. It
lhad tanen buried fourteen years.
Fatal Affair —A Tx.venmi Killed by a
Pri-iL. —We learn, says the Chambers TrUninr,
.tfoit a fatal occurrence took place in this coun
ty, near Berlin, on Monday last, the 15th inst.,
in which Mr. Brawnier, a school teacher in
that neighborhood, was fatally It
appears from what we can gather, that Braw
nier undertook to chastise one of his pupils, a
lad named Collins, about 12 years old, when
the latter drew a knife, and inflicted n wound ,
upon Brawnier which caused bis death in a '
abort time. Alter he was stabbed, he pursued
the lad for a short distance, but his strength
very soon gnve ont. and lie fell dead. We un
derstand that Collins has made Ms escape, and j
up to the present time, we hgve not heard that ■
he has been arrested. These arc nil the par
ticulars that we have learned.

I meeting has been in progress here for about
three weeks, conducted by the Methodist per

An examination of the county Treasurer's Books
r convince us of the correctness ami neatness of tlie

levied upon the general State tax for county pur
poses.
We find the jail and Court house to be in good order,
but we condemn the taste of the Inferior Court in
selecting saw dust for the floor, and we hope that the
same will be speedily corrected, and that it be re
i moved. We further recommend the Inferior Court
to assess such a tax as in their judgment will be suf-
| iicient to pay our insolvimt criminal debt.
Our roads, we are sorry to say, are in bad condi-
i tion, and recommend the proper authorities to at
tend at once to the same, and have them properly re
paired. We recommend the Inferior Court to have
the bridge on the road leading from Hickory Grove
' to Dixon's old shop, built.
The Clerk's Books have been examined by us, they
I reflect great credit upon the efficient officer who has ■
; charge of them. Wc cannot too highly coiunieud His
Honor, Henry G. Lamar, for the able, efficient and
prompt manner in which he has conducted ami dis
