At a full meeting of the stockholders of this
Company, held in New York on the 23d, it
was resolved to sell their steamships and liqui
date their affairs. The Journal of Commerce
says :

from freight aud passengers alone not justify
ing a continuance of business. The necessity

1847, aud their two ships were launched in

ing term of service, they have made more their

tic, and have never lost a passenger or met
with a serious accident.
Although a liquidation has been res6lvcd
upon, it docs not appear that the affairs of the
company are in a very bad condition. At the
commencement of operations, the running ex
penses were very heavy, owing to necessary
alterations and repairs of machinery, absorb
ing a large portion of the receipts; hut latter
ly dividends have been made with tolerable
regularity, amounting to thirty seven per cent,
on the capital, so that there is now a surplus
on hand. And if the steamers should be sold
at a fair valuation, the investment will have
proved in a good degree remunerative.

estimate for carpenters’ work must include all the
labor and materials for wood work, irou work and
