T ra HE subscriber has thoroughly tried, at Macou
and Columbus, Georgia, his wrought iron Cot
ton Screw, where two of them are now standing and
will remain until October for inspection. I believe
it is cheapest, by half, ever offered for the purpose of
pressing cotton or hay, as tho frame, screw, pin, and
fevers are all of wrought iron. It should be attach
ed to the gin house, and have it put up through tho
floor, as the ordinary press—the levers being only
five feet in length—to nave tho width of the house
and 18 aud 20 feet in length, the lint conld thin be
placed all aronnd the screw. Then a man can take
five hands and pack as many five-hundred-pound-
bales in one day, with as little labor to the hand, as
the same five and two more, with a horse, can on
the wood screw in tho same time. Three hands can
put up one nud take it dowD, and it can be carried at
one load with four mules to any point.—As this is for
the public eye I will give the amount of timber ne
