Left For Parts Unknown.
Mr. W. P. Parker, who was arrested
by sheriff Stevens last week under a
state warrant for running a blind tiger
in the city of Winder, was not able“to
stand trial and was being looked after
by the bailif until the doctors thought
his condition would be such that heconld
go before a magistrate. He was consid
ered worse Monday and the bailiff did
not think it necessary to remain with
him all night. Tuesday morning when
one of the physicians who wa3 attend
ing him went to his house he found it
vacant and Mr. Parker end family had
left for parts unknown. “The wicked
flee when no man pursneth, but the
righteous are as bold as a lion” is quite
applicable to Mr. Parker if all reports
are true.

Obituary.
Mr. Editor.
Dear Sir.
May we ask space in the cclimns of
your paper, to insert, a tribute to the
memory of a dear departed loved one.
“Gathering Home, Gathering Home,
Gods children, ere gathering Home,”
This beautiful song, so often sang by
the children cf the Sabbath school, and
in which the writer has often delighted
to join them in sweet sentiments, has
never sounded sweeter than on Monday
morning, September 25th, 1899 in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Hamilton, in
the beautiful town of Winder, Jackson
Cos. Georgia.
Here, a large compay of relatives and
friends, had gathered in sympathy to
pay their last tribute of respect to one,
whom all loved, who had ever met her.
In the parlor, sat a beautiful white
plush casket; in this lay, as if sweetly
sleeping, robed in white, the body of,
Miss Mabell Starr Hamilton, youngest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs Hamilton,
Her delineate hands were clasping love
ly buds of roses, while here and there
were placed flowers and fumes, all
blending in harmony, making it one of
the most beautiful sights ever beheld by
the writer of this sketch. Near by
stood four pretty young girls dressed in
white.
The services began by their singing
the above mentioned sweet song,
“Gathering Home.”—
Yes, the preciousone that lay before
them, cold in the embrace of Death,
had been gathered home; to a beautiful
mansion above, where free from all sor
row and pain, we shall hope to meet
one another again.
Thankful are we, who were permitted
to be present and witness the saintly
flower, with its beautiful surroundings
and listen to the words of Rev. Dr.
Qaillian of the M. E church South while
he spoke of the worth of her Christian
li'e, its impress upon all who know
her, well nigh her entire life, one of
pain and affliction. Bing partiaUy

years, yet in the midst of all, hor

or complaining, always a kind word,
with deep sympathy for any whom she
chanced to hear of in affliction, her
whole life one of spotless parity.
Well may it be said of her: She has
gone up through great tribulation, her
robes washed and made white in the
blocd of the lamb, even Jesus, on whom
she leaned for support.
Calmly, qnietly, without a straggle,
she fell asleep in the arms of her blessed
Saviour, while her spirit is borne home
to rest with the redeemed where she may
behold him who said, “Be thou faithlui
unto death, and I will promise inheri
ance of all who will hear and obey his
call.
A tender tribute to her memory was
paid her by Mr. G. N. Dexter, of Madi
son, Ga., who had known her from
childhood.
The services concluded at the home,
the casket was borne from the house by
six young gentlemen who acted as; pall
bearers, followed by sorrowing friends.
On her grave were laid many lovely
flowers loving hands had pluoked end
fashioned for her, a tribute of love and
esteem.
