last Tuesday night. It was quite a suc
cess.
Mrs Sberard is visiting her daughter
in law, Mrs Henry Sherard of Harrican
Shoals.
Mr. and Mrs Bramley, of Forsyth Ga.,
spent a few days with Rev. H. B. Mays
the latter part of last week.
Judge L. Y. Bradbury is slowly im
proving from his serious illness.

Mr. H. E. Walker, representing the
Cooper & Cos. old time one ring Show
was in the city today. He gave the
citizens from the band stand an open air
concert by singing a few of his popular
comic and coon songs, after which he
made an announcement of their big
show which will be here tomorrow.

Mr. J. B Patterson and wife, of
Gainesville, Georgia, are the guests of
'Mr. J. W. Waddell this week.
The gamblers are having hard luck
as nine were carried from Seville last
week tp meet the judge at Abbeville
court.
Mrs. Neal Smith left last week to
visit her parents in Jackson county.
Many of our young people are pre
paring to go to the Wallis Show at Cor
dele on the 28th.
Ou last Friday night someone broke
into the store, of Mr. J. A. King and son.
After opening the mony drawer aud get
ting five or six dollars, they took a lot
of dress goods etc. They tried the store
of W. B. Greeson, bnt failed to gam ad
mittance, We have found no clue yet
as to who were the villains.
One of onr belles; while passing
around the house the other day, spied
her youngest brother behind the chim
ney smoking a cigarette. “There young
man,” she exclaimed, “I’ll tell your
father about this. See if I don’t.”
“Yes, yon tell ’em and see how quick
that fellow of yours ’ill skip. I’ll tell
father how you all were sitting on the
sofa aud he hugging you like blazes.
Yes, tell ’em, that’s all I ask.” She
didn’t tell worth a oent.

Uncle Drew Jackson, one of our best
<ll men is very fond of hunting and
went with several other gentlemen one
night last week for a ’possum hunt.
The dogs treed a fine one and when the
tree was cut down Uncle Drew hurried
to the scene of action to try and cap
ture it before the dogs should do much
damage to the carcass. He stooped to
catch the animal by the tail when one
of his favorite dogs made a grab at his
whiskers, thinking he had hold of the
’possum. Uuc'e Drew came home
minus a part of his whiskers and says
the dog grabbed the wrong 'possum.

tion
Rev. D. A. Brindle, pastor of the
Christian church of Winder, will be'ab
sent next Sunday and Dr. Pogue, the
Presbyterian minister, will fill his ap
pointments Sunday morning and night.
Mr. Brindle loaves today for Cincinnati
to attend the groat National Jubilee
Convention of his church. It is estima
ted, he informed us, that there will be
over 10,000 delegates present from all
over the United states. The Conven
tion will be in session for a week or
more.

Family Dinner.
Dr. W. L. Bush left Tuesday for Bal
timore to take another coarse in the
dental college of that city. Mr. and
Mrs. W. H. Bush gave a family dinner
Tuesday so that all of them could be
together before the departure of Wiley,
wbo will be absent for six months or
more. Mr. aud Mrs. Z.F. Jack-on, Mr.
and Mrs. M. J. Griffith, Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. Sheats, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Fer
guson, Col. and Mrs. Hayes and Mr.
and Mrs. R L. Rogers were present and
with the unmarried children and grand
children made quite a number to enjoy
the nice dinner of everything that,
