HO,,IDLE TRAGEDY IN FLORIDA
MasDedlT Instrument Used-No Clew

Has Been Discovered.
one of the most horrible crimes
ever perpetrated in Florida was dis
overed Tuesday afternoon about
seven miles west of Jacksonville, when
the bodies of Mrs. Rosanna Roberts, a
widow, aged seventy-six; her son, G.
T Roberts, a bachelor, aged fifty
three, and Miss Jennie Roberts, a
daughter, also unmarried, aged fifty
t years, were found murdered at
fhpir home.
The body of the old lady was dis
covered in her bed, her bead split
open with an ax. The body of the son
vas found half out of the bed, as if he
had attempted to rise, and a shotgun
broken half in two by the side of the
bed, showed that he had attempted to
defend himself.
The body of the daughter was found
under the ’house, whero she had run
from her assailants in the house. Evi
dences showed that she had been fol
lowed and struck two heavy blows
with the ax, which killed her.
Tho three composed the entire fami
lv, which has been wiped out of ex
istence, and were well-to-do and high
ly respected people.
’ The nearest house was one mile and
a quarter from their home. The bodies
were discovered by a neighbor who
stopped to get a drink of water, and
seeing no life about, made an investi
gation with the result of discovering
the horrible crime.
Trunks aud drawers were ransacked,
but what was taken has not been dis
covered, as money and other valuables
were found where the robbers and
murderers had worked. There is no
trace to the perpetrators of the crime.
BRYAN AT RALEIGH.
Two Addrcssc* Delivered to Uarjje Crowd*
In Tarheel Capital.
Bryan arrived in Raleigh, N. C., at
5 o’clock Tuesday afternoon over the
Seaboard Air-Line from Richmond.
He was met by a crowd of 10,000
people, headed by the local military
organizations and cadets and was im
mediately driven to a large tent erect
ed for the speaking.
He was introduced by State Chair
man Simmons and spoke for and hour
and a half mostly on familiar lines.
He devoted rather more time than usual
to a discussion of taxation, declaring
that an income tax would be a leading
feature iu the campaign this fall. He
discussed trusts, free silver aud im
perialism at some length on the usual
lines.
At night Mr. Bryan spoke in the
Academy of Music. Hundreds were
turned away, being unable to gain ad
mittance to the building. He devoted
much more of hia time to imperialism
than in his afternoon speech.

CARVING MEATS.
Hew the Various Cuts of Meat and Kinds of
Fowl Should be Carved.
“There Is a real pleasure in follow
ing the skillful carving of a fine, well
cooked turkey, saya Ella Morris Krets
chmar when writing of “The Art of
Carving” in the Woman’s Home Com
panion. “The carver should place tho
fork firmly in the breast, the neck
end being to the left, then separate the
two thigh-joints from the body. Next
remove tho wings at the shoulder-joint
then slice the breast down to the long
wedge-shape piece—the ‘Emperor’s
muscle.’ Next the bone should be re
moved whole, aud then remove the oys
ters from the back, divide the legs
and thighs, and begin the serving. Re
move the filling with a spoon.
“A goose, unless young and tender,
is a carving problem, and even when
In prime condition is a deceiving meat
dish In the matter of quantity. The
same may be said of ducks, wild and
tamo. There is almost no meat on the
backs of these birds; thewlngs and legs
are far from choice, having little meat,
and that not often tender; so there re
mains only the breast for satisfactory
servings. Cut the breast-meat straight
down parallel with the bone. A roast
from the round must be thinly sliced
across its face. Carve a rib roast in
slices parallel with the ribs, never
parallel with tho backbone, and make
the Blices as thin as possible. A fillet
can only be cut through in uniform
slices, somewhat thicker than from a
rib roast. A sirloin must have the ten
derloin removed and sliced separately.
Roast or boiled legs of mutton, venison
or veal are carved by cutting at right
angles down to the bone, the thick side
first, then turning to get at the thin
side. In veal, mutton and lamb the
lowest bit of meat on the leg, the hock,
is the choice piece, being very tender
and juicy. Tongue should be cut in
Blanting slices, as thin as wafers. Ham,
likewise, should be shaved rather than
sliced toward the bone. When one un
derstands the exact location of joints
and the grains of meats the rest of
carving is easily acquired.”
One Immense Advantage.

Save Your Hair with
Shampoos of
And light dressings ol CUTICURA, purest of
emollient skin cures. This treatment at once
stops falling hair, removes crusts, scales, and
dandruff, soothes irritated, itching surfaces,
stimulates the hair follicles, supplies the roots
with energy and nourishment, and makes the
hair grow upon a sweet, wholesome, healthy
scalp when all else fails.
Millions of Women
Use CUTICURA Soap exclusively for preserving, purifying, and beautifying
the skin, for cleansing the scalp of crusts, seales, and dandruff, and the stop
ping of falling hair, for softening, whitening, and healing, red, rough, and
sore hands, in the form of baths for annoying irritations and chaftngs, or
too free or offensive perspiration, in the form of washes for ulcerative weak
nesses, and for many antiseptic purposes which readily suggest themselves
to women, and especially mothers, and for all the purposes of the toilet,
bath, and nursery. No amount of persuasion can induce those who have once
used it to use any other, especially for preserving and purifying the skin,
scalp, and hair of infants and children. Cuticura Soap combines delicate
emollient properties derived from Cuticura, the great skin cure, with the
purest of cleansing ingredients, and the most refreshing of flower odors. No
other medicated soap ever compounded is to be compared with it for pre
serving, purifying, and beautifying the skin, scalp, hair, and hands. No
other foreign or domestic toilet soap, however expensive, is to be compared
with it for all the purposes of the toilet, bath, and nursery. Thus it com
bines, in One Soap at One Price, viz., Twenty-five Cents, the best
skin and complexion soap, the best toilet and best baby soap in the world.
All that has been Bald of Cuticura Boap may bo said with even greater emphasis
of Cuticura Ointment, tho most dolicate, and yot most effective of emollients, and
greatest of gkin cures. Its uso in connection with CuriCURA Soap (as per directions
around each package), iu tho “One Night Cure for Sore Hands,” in tho
“ Instant Relief Treatment for Disfiourino Itchinos and Irritations,”
and in many uses too numerous to mention, is sufficient to prove its superiority
over all other preparations for tho skin.
