A Nice Reception.
Miss Mary Perdue, a very charming
and beautiful young lady, of Athenr,
i was tendered a reception at Mrs. Green
I Smith’s Tuesday evening. Those pres
ent were Mrs. Brown, Misses Tillman,
Brumby, Ethridge, Boyd, Saunders,
Smith, Jackson, Wilhite and Perdue,
Messrs. Carr. Duke, E. Jackson, Hunt,
Black, Saunders, B. Jackson, Millsaps,
Toole, Young, Dabney and Mayne.
Various game3 and different kinds of
amusement were indulged iu. The
power of the occasion was greatly en
hanced by the excellent music rendered
by Miss Tillman. Refreshments wore
served, and when the hour hand point
ed to the close of another day, everyone
went away praising th 9 host, and hos
tess for their great hospitality.

The Ladies Aid Society
Will give an oyster supper Friday
evening, November 9th, from 8 to 12
o’clock at the home of Mrs. Hilman
Jackson, for the purpose of buying a
stove for the Christian church. Besides
the oysters there will be for sale hit
chocolate, ice cream and cake.
The Society extends to each one a cor
dial invitation.

Mr. and Mrs. Bush and Miss Dora
Wilhite reached home last Saturday
from Jacksonville, Florida, where
they went to attend the Industrial
meeting of the Seaboard Air Line rail
road. They report a delightful trip and
one of the best meetings ever held by
this department of the great S. A. L.
system. *
Big Crowd.
About the largest crowd of people
ever seen in Winder was here last Sat
urday to see the show of John H. Sparks.
All of 1500 persons witnessed the per
formance in the afternoon and 1000 at
night. Most all who attended were
well pleased.

A Young Lady Outraged.
On Wednesday of last week an assault
was committed upon Miss Della Hood,
a young girl 16 years old, who lives with
the family of Air. A. S. Sroggins, two
and a half miles from Hormouy Grove.
Her assailant is Gus Fellows, a negro
who lived near by. He has been cap
tured and carried to Atlanta for sate
keeping. Judge Russell has called a
special term of Jackson Superior Court
to meet tomorrow’, Friday, and quick
justice will be given him. Judge Rus
sell acted wisely iu bringing this brute
to trial at once.

Attempt to Wreck Train.
The attempt to wreck the passenger
train coming out from Atlanta last Sat
urday night over the S. A. I road
would have been accomplished had not |
the authorities suspected the attempt 1
would be made and were on their guard.
The place of the intended wreck is
about four miles beyond Lawrenceville
at a trestlo that is 450 feet long and 60
feet high.
John Dalton and Tom Patterson were
the two narties caught in the act of
loosening bolts so as to move a raii,
by Sheriff Haslett and detective of the
• oad There were about 500 persons on

perhaps might have been killed or in
juried had these men been successful.
