GREATER WINDER.
“Tyrant” Wants Harmony, Wider
Strreets and a Pull Alltogether
for a Greater City.
Why not Greater Winder?
Those of you who have l>een keep
ing yourselves posted of doings in
and around about Atlanta can
roadily see the strides she is mak
ing in trying to boost herself to a
city of more prominence than she
now holds. Population is a neces
sity to make a large city. I would
add to population harmony, push
and economy. Then you have four
points that will count more in the
building of a city than the ace,
king, jack and duce in a game of
live-up.
Winder has the harmony? Eh,
push and economy. She has men
of means and intellect, and men of
extraordinary business qualifica
tions. Winder has (the editor
never asked for this) one of the best
little papers in Georgia. The type
is large and catchy to tie* naked
eye. The men who push this pa
per are clean and conscientious in
politics, and tried and trusted when |
it comes to editorial work.
Winder has the best all-around
prices on tilings the farmers need of
any town I’ve visited. Her trade
in cotton and cotton seed is extra
large for a town of its population.
The price paid for cotton and cotton
seed has often fooled me on account
of its nearness to the prices of towns
near to shipping points.
•
Lumber and house building ma
terials bring a fancy price. We
farmers with timber can obtain all
it is worth by putting it on the
market. The hardware business is
well looked after there. No store
in much larger towns carry a 1 letter
line, with prices to suit the buyer.
Drugs and physicians a-plenty, and
cheap for cash. Dental work is not
forgotten, but is closely looked after
by competent dentists. '1 he bar
bers are there, too, ready to shave
your face and comb your hair.
Automobile, buggy and wagon men,
more than one. Three prosperous
banks doing a good business. Secret
organizations galore. One among
the best schools in this section.
Somewhere near 000 pupils in at
tendance. A good mayor, a. busi
ness set of couneilmen and in ef
ficient police force. When the
nights are dark the town is well
lighted by electricity. An up-to
date system of water works furnish
the city with an abundance of wa
ter.
The majority of the city fathers
are country-raised boys, and know
how to meet, greet and encourage
the trade from tlx 1 country. \\ in
dor’s railroads puts her in touch
with the liest markets in buying
and selling.
If 1 were to enumerate all the
business enterprises of this hustling
little place, I could not got space.
1 wish to repeat: Get together,
decide and act. Widen and straight
en your streets. If you have to
move somebody’s house or veranda
just a little, let her go. Make us a
| good way to get into your town.
By helping us in you help to popu
late your town by men who are
looking for just such a town. Ch sc
your eyes to these improvements,
and you drive men and business
1 from your very doors.
Then let us pull together. Your
getting in harmony will be an invi
tation to us t join you. if we do,
it will mean much to us, as country'
people, for as you prosper so will
you be in a position to help us.
Then, if we prosper, the more will
' we l>e able to spend in your places
of business.
One pull, a long pull, a hard pull
and a mighty effort of a united peo
ple, and we will have a Greater
j Winder, Tykaxt.
