Mr. Sidney Maughon, son of Mr.
S. T. Maughon, the merchant, has
returned from Mercer University,
and is spending sometime with his
parents in the city, before taking
up bis duties at Ida Carithers
Academy in Oconee county, where
he will teach during the summer.
Mr. J. F. Adams and wife, of
Atlanta, spent Tuesday in the city.
Mr. Adams was here with a view of
entering the merchantile field in
this city and expressed himself as
being very favorably imperssed with
Winder as a modern, progressive
little city. It is very likely that he
and his familv will become citizens
o: our town in the near future, and
they will be given a warm welcome.

Brown-Humphreys.
Sunday afternoon, just as the
sun went down, Mr. Young Thom
as Humphreys, of near Commerce
was happily married to Miss Mag
gie Brown, of Brockton, Ga. The
groom is the only son of T. G.
Humphreys, a confederate veter
an, a prominent planter in his
section of the country, while his
bride is the youngest daughter of
J. M. Brown, a merchant of
Brockton. Judge H. T. Jennings,
of Harrisburg district, tied the
nuptial knot.

Pleased The Cro-wd.
A large crowd was present at
the Lyric Monday night to see th
“Life of Buffalo Bill” in movies,
and if one judged the show by
the applause the pictures leased
The famous old scout, who was
the real hero in days long ago of
many escapes on the plains, and
wiio has been worshiped by boys
for so many years, was shown in
the first picture and the last, but
the part he played in the histori
cal scenes that were shown, was
taken by a more youthful person
age, and one whose ability as
an actor was outclassed by his
skill at riding. The famous duel
between Buffalo Bill and Chief
Yellow Hand was far different
as shown in the picture from the
colonel’s own story of the little
affair with the redskin. But it
pleased the crowd, so we guess
the picture serves its purpose. A
far better picture was“ The Ven
ganoe of Fate.*’
Miss Mamie Mathews.
Sunday at 5 P. M. at her home
in the southern section of the
city occured the death of Miss
Mamie. Mathews. The funeral was
at Ebenezer in Harbins district
Monday afternoon. (
Death of Little Girl.
The 8-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. C. Stancil died at
their home near the city Sunday,
and the body was interred at
Cedar Creek Church Oemetery
Monday. !
