SUES MACON TELEGRAPH FOR
SIOO,OOO.
William O. Mcßae, a student at Mer
cer University, lias Instituted suit in
the suiierior court of Rihb county,
against the Macon Telegraph charging
libel in an editorial that appeared in
that paper of November 18, 1920.
The editorial, Is is claimed, accused
Mcßae of quoting from the ritual of a
secret order in his speech seconding
the nomination of Thomas E. IN at son
as United States senator from Georgia
in the state convention held there last
fall. On the ground that this accusa
tion is libel, that it has held him up to
public hatred, ridicule and scorn, and
is false and malicious, the young stu
dent filed his suit, adding that on ac
count of the editorial lie has been se
verely criticised by his frinds.
. The petitioner states that he quoted
lines from a poem by Dr. Josiah G.
Holland, which he altered slightly and
added four lines from a poem by Ten
nyson. The petitioner says that he is
not a member of any secret order hav
ing as part of its ritualistic work the
poem which he quoted.

Michael Brothers
Safe Is Opened.
A large crowd gathered on Clayton
street Saturday afternoon to witness
the opening of the two big safes used
by Michael Brothers before the lire
which destroyed their building recent
ly. Both were opened by un expert,
representing a well known safe manu
facturing company and the contents
found intact. The locks on both were
chiseled off.
With the exception of being slight
ly scorched tlie books and other val
uable papers of the firm were found
to be in good condition. A big roll
of green backs was shown a Herald
reporter and although the hills had
been slightly discolored by the intense
heat, tsey all had the same fascinating
appearance that they were when they
were first released from the printing
press in the Government printing office.
Home of the silver pieces were welted
against inside walls but were easily
pric'd off.
Large crowds were viewing the
smoldering ruins throughout Saturday
and scores of visitors were inspecting
the scene of Athens’ greatest fire. —
