What more could any one ask of him? Come along friends and lets give him an ovation on the 9th that is commensurate with his worthiness. Lets make the occassion one that will astonish even the old guard. The platform adopted by the democratic Convention smacks a bit of populism. Now Joe, when it comes your time to assume charge, don't sit down on the whole thing. Jf you do, look out. The people are in no humor to he played with. Promises will catch for awhile, but performance is in demand to day. But here we are on politics, and somebody is wanting to know what a ‘'scribbler ' to a newspaper knows, or has to do with politics. LEBANON. Mr. W. E. Sunday school next Sunday at p. m. Miss Bessie Whitehead is very ill at this writing and is not expected to live. Sheppard Ramseau attended ser vices at Lebanon Sunday. Quite a large crowd, old and young, went to Mountain Creek Sunday to hear Rev. Collins. Farmers are looking forward to laying by. Crops are . fine in this section, and we are expecting 7 1-2 cents. If we should get more we would be gladly surprised. Our Sunday school will be rep resented at the celebration in Hoschton next Saturday by Miss Marelle Barnett. Peaches, apples, pears, etc,, are plentiful in this section. The eclipse of the sun Sunday was generally observed by our cit izens. Smoked glasses were in ev idence on all sides. PENTECOST. One of the delightful affairs of the week was the entertainment given by Miss Sallie Lowe Monday ; evening, complirmentary to her cousin, Miss Sallie Lowe Anthony of WihterviHe,Ga. Many features of entertainment were engaged in, after which delicious refreshments were served. Misses Elizbeth Epps and Leila Lester have returned to their home in Athens, after a delightful visit to Miss Ruby Lester. Miss Ovelia Arnold and Miss Estelle McElhannon spent Monday in Atlanta. Miss Launa Tucker and Mcsdames C. B. Chambers and L. M. Arnold left Monday for Gainesville to at tend the meeting of the Home Mis sion Board in that city. Little Miss Jewel Sheats, of Mon roe, is visiting her grandfather, Mr. Tol Lester. Miss Eunice Guinn is spending a few weeks with her grandmother in Bogart. Mrs. Emma Arnold is visiting in Atlanta. Mr. Will Lowe, of Jefferson, is visiting home folks. Miss Ovelia Arnold left Thursday fora month’s stay in Monioe, N. C. Miss Emma McElroy, of Bogart, spent the week-end with relatives here. Miss Ruby Lester gave a delight ful little party Thursday evening for her guests, Misses Epps and Lester. Mrs. S. Patten is quit sick at this writing. Mr. Tandy Wofford and family | spent Saturday in Winder. W. D. McDonald, Danson Bolton I and Col. Homes were in Deeula Saturday on Business. . Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wofford, of Winder, are with Mr. Wofford’s fnr a few days. PARADISE. The crops are tooking fine in this community., Mr. and Mrs. Williv Patton spent Sunday h re the guests of Mr. T. A. Smith and family. Mrs Emma Attaway spent Satur day and Sunday with Mrs- C. E. Tuck. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Rogers spent Saturday and Sunday at Doves Creek, the guests of Mr. J. W. D. Mcleroy and family. Mr. J. H. Clack made a business trip to Athens Monday. Mr. Otis Camp and family were the guests of Mr. and Mrs Oscar Harrison Saturday night and Sun day. Several from hear attended preaching at Hebron Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Williams spent Sunday at New Chapel with Mr. Alanzo Williams and family. Mr. and Mrs- C. L. Greeson and children spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs. John McElhannon. The Sunday School are going on nicly here. STATHAM PERSONALS. The bazar given by the ladies of the Christian church, was a com plet success. They raised about $33 net. Sheriff Ben Collier, was on our street last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jackson, of Winder, were the guests of the atter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lowe, Sunday. Mr. Custer Ross was in Atlanta Sunday. Miss Ruby Lester has returned from Monroe, where she spent a pleasant week with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Job R. Smith, with little grand children, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Cheek. Mrs. S. A. Patten i recovering from an illness of several weeks. Mr. Claud Anthony, of High Shoals, was in the city Sunday. Miss Bell Hardigree, of Winder, has returned home after a .pleasant stay of several days with friends and relatives there. Misses Myron Guinn and Ruth Harper and Mr. Cliff Harper were, with relatives at Bogart Sunday. John Kilgore, Anderson Sharpton and Emory Barber, of Winder,were in the city Sunday. Mrs. J. R. Moore,of Newton,Ga., is with her sister, Mjrs. J. B. Cheek, for a month’s stay. Mrs. Maud Kimsey, of Colbert, and Mrs. Beulah Brooks,of Ashburn, are with-their parents, Mr and Mrs. J. B. Bvlee, for a few weeks’ visit. The lad if? of the Methodist church have had the Uuilfling re painted inside and out, much to the appearance. Hon. J. M. L. Thurmond was in Atlanta one day last week on business. Miss Sunie May Lanier is at home from the State Normal for summer vacation, to the delight of her many friends. J. P. Kelly, candidate for sheriff, was on our streets one day last week. Len Rudicil lias leturned home, after spending a month in Cornelia. Hon. H. H. West, of Athens, was in the city Monday orr legal business. The many friends of Mrs. J. M. Thurmond are delighted to know that she is recovering from an illness of several weeks. M iss Norma Booth has returned to her home near this city after a week's stay in Atlanta. Miss Emiline Patten and Mr. Silas Kinney, both of this city, were married on Sunday, the 28th in stant, in Jefferson, the Hon. J. N. Ross performing the ceramony. Mrs. Kinney is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Patten of this place, She is a young lady of strong Char acter and numbers her friends by the score. David Wjffll made a business trip to Colbert Saturday. Miss Sallie Lowe Anthony has retuned to her home in Winterville, after a pleasant week’s stay with her cousin, Miss Sallie Lowe, of this city. RUSSELL Mrs. J. R. Cox is improving. She has been suffering with acute indigestion. The Rey. Mr. Dillard, brother to Mrs. R. B. Russell, is visiting Judge Russell and family. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Meadow visited their parents Saturday. Lieut. Robert Lee Russell visited his brother, Judge R, B. Russell, last week. Miss Minnie Bell is expected to be called to the bedside of her sister in Florida, who is very ill with fever. Miss Lucy Johnson,of Greensboro, spent the night with Miss Della Smith Saturday. Miss Della Smith spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Medows.
