There is going to be a wedding in our midst at ah early date. Mr. (.Sc >orge Hardy and family spent the day in this section Sun day. Mrs. Mollie Haney is very ill at this writing. Miss Fannie Light has returned from North Carolina. Mr. ,T. T. Martin and family spent the day near Mulberry last Sunday. We are going to have a picnic soon ami a jolly time we’ll have. Come up, all ye that set the type and push the pencil. (Coming ) Mr. Cleveland Banks, of Walnut, was with us Sunday. Prof. Riehburg, who has been quite sick, is much better. Mr. M H. Situs has returned from South Georgia. lie says that our crops tin* looking better than those of the section he visited. Some of our boys will leave in a few days for Alabama. We sure got our paper last week. The trouble was, we had to hunt the key to get it out. Sauer. PARADISE. Crops arc looking fine in this section. Mr. and Mrs. John Clack spent Saturday and Sunday in Winder, the guest of Mr. Willie Clack's family. Mr. and Mrs. House, were the guest of D. D. Jones family Tues day. Miss Jodie Wood, of this place spent last week at Winder, the guest of her sister, Mrs. Alma Graham. Mr. and Mrs. Ix'sser (Hack spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. aud Mrs. Rastus Perk ins family. Mr. (Jraffie Austin, of near Beth lehem, spent Sunday in our hurg. Mr. and Mrs. 1.. 1,. The Prosperity Club is getting new members every day. Mis. L. (’. Allen returned from Augusta last week. Mrs. Sadie Darby Tracy and chil dren, of Century, Fla., are welcome visitors here for the summer. Miss Inez and May Allen King, of Atlanta, are spending the sum mer here. Miss Ola Darby, of Vidalia, and Miss Lena Bell, of Monroe, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Breedlove. Miss B. Kilgore,of Villa Rica, and Miss Bessie Kilgore, of Girard, Ala., are visiting their sister Mrs. J..R. Hosch, for the summer. Mr. J.*A. Faulker, of Colliert, is visiting friends here this week. Mr. O. J. Adams of Monroe was visiting home folks last week and — The Farmers report crops in good shape. Johnnie Green hasn't had much show this year. Mr. and Mrs. Breedlove enter tained the younger set Tuesday night with an ice cream supper. Our school opened up fine here with Prof. J. H. Breedlove as prin cipal, Miss Flora Wilson first assis tant, Miss Yula Blal oek second assis tant- Wahs T. Ritlaw. LEBANON. C. D., G. W. C. and J. M. Holliday, Ira Segars, Guy Strick land, F. I). Freeman, W. J Mar gin and Misses Margie and Allice Holliday attended the barbecue and dance Thursday of last week at Center. Mrs. Sam Fulcher and Mrs. \V- A Fulcher spent Saturday in Stathain. J. G. Burson and Miss Cynthia Henry, of Stathain, spent Saturday here. After a long sickness with Con sumption Miss Bessie Whitehead died last Friday night, July 10 She was buried at Lebanon church lust Sunday at 12:00 o'clock, Rev. George D. Stone conducting the funeral services. She leaves a fath er, two listers and two brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her early demise. We drop a tear of grief with those who mourn in this, their sad hour of bereave ment . Mr. and Mrs. ,1. A. Wills, and W. T. Wills, of Jefferson, Mr. and Mrs. D. 0. Elder, of Gallilee, spent Sunday in our midst. Miss Lola May Nash, of Clarke county, is spending a short while here with relatives. HuU rt Martin attended the sing ing at Oconee Sunday. School is progressing nicely under the management of Misses Loren a Aderhold and Blondene Bridges, of Gainesville. Mr. and Mrs. T. ('. Banks visited relatives at County Line Saturday and Sunday. Little Henry Meadow, from Can ton, is spending the summer here with Mr. and Mrs. Andy Barnett. He going to school. Delegates from here to the con vention at Jefferson are Messrs W. H. and W. A. Banks, Misses Marelle Barnett and Etta Evans. Big all-day singing at Mountain Creek Sunday. Rev. Bridges says the most of the time will be taken up in “sparking.” Boys, come. The singing is also excellent. We are requested to say that the cemetery at this place will be cleaned off on Thursday before the first Sun day in August. We ask everybody to come and help. Mr. Willie Garner, beiter known as “Bill,” died last Monday from indigestion and was buried at Walnut Wednesday. We extend our sympathy to the beieaved ones. A nice pool will be erected near the spring for the purpose of bap tising. The pool is much needed. Guy Roberts of Pendergrass visits Hosch ton quite often, there must be some attraction. Prof. Henry F. Bird will con duct a series of singing schools at Zion the two first weeks in August. He is a fine teacher. UNION ACADEMY Our school is progressing nicely under the care of Mr. Walter Rainey, principal, Miss Lilian Moore as sistant. Protracted meeting will begin at this place next fourth Saturday. Sunday school is progressing nicely. Everybody is invited to attend. Mr and Mrs. R. N. Foster, of Monroe, visited homefolks Sunday. Mr.and Mrs. Vasco Segars, of Winder, attended Sunday school at this place Sunday. Mr. Carl Hardigree and sister, Miss Viola, visited relatives in this section Saturday night. Mr. Ezra Hope and Hosea Wal lace attended the singing at Oconee Sunday. Messrs. Carl Hardigree, Lester Hammonds. Mark and Grady Segars attended Sunday school at Long View Sunday afternoon. BETHLEHEM. Social news is scarce this week. Mr. A. A. Darby and son, of Vidalia, Ga., are on extended visit to relatives and friends in and around this place. Misses Genorna and lona Miller are entertaining Misses Gertrude and Zilla Austin, of Atlanta, this week. lee cream suppers are no rairity nowadays. It seems that they are “warming up.' The seining “fit'' did not last long. Just long enough to get a fel low good wet. School opened here a week ago with a good attendance. The Concrete company of this place is doing quite a lot of work in Monroe, Social Circle and other places. R. L. Manning and Emory Harris went to Atlanta last Tuesday. Walton county was well represent eel at the populist notification con vention last week. ’Twas a great occasion,in that the crowd was large, orderly, harmonious and determin ed. Seven thousand people heard Mr. Watson |Thursday and 10.000 to 12.CM.KJ at night. There has never been such an ovation given any one in Georgia, as was accorded to Mr. Watson Thursday night. Mr. Watson’s explanation of his position in the last campaign was explicit and convincing. He showed that any other position would have been entirely against his former attitude toward state issues. Mr. Matson said some were not willing to risk his judgement in politics, but in a life and death case in the court house, they would pay him to represent them —want afraid, then, See? With the negro out of politics, whiskey out of the negro, and with the disgraceful convict lease system abolished and a government rail road running aroud the state, why, of course we will be in better shape. But we wont stop at^ihese —onward is our motto. W. W. PENTECOST. Our literary school is progressing nicely now under care of Prof. Geo. Kimsey. Misses Ada McDonald and Bertha Smith were the guests of Miss Ger trude Ross last Saturday night. We are sorry to say that Mr. -J. C Pentcost is on the sick list this week. Mrs. J.C. HancocK,of near Mays vile, visited relatives in this section recently. Ml the patrons of the literary school at this place are requested to meet at the school house next Sat urday, .July 18. Business of im portance. Miss Bertha McDonald visited relatives at Statham Sunday. Mrs. MoEver and little grand daughter, Pauline, have returned home from a visit to relatives of near County Line. 1 see the County Line correspon dent wants J. M- Haynie to come up and give his platform. I will say for Haynie that the law made by the legislature will be his plat form and will l>e the man's plat form that is elected. We will also say that he will treat all sections of the county alike. Our Sunday school is on a boom now. Everybody invited to come. Mr. Walter Finch was the guest of Mr. Fetch Lyle last Saturday night. Miss Dalton of near County Line is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Manda Finch, of this place. Mr. Pope Bowman, of Florida, is visiting Mr. R. N. Pentecost and family this week. Pentecost and Pleasant Hill will play ball at Pleasant Hill next Sat urday. CORINTH. Rev. Sumrnerour’s wife will preach at Corinth next Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. Sunday school at 9 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Odum visit ed Mr. and Mrs.J. T. Hinesly Sun day afternoon. Mr. Green Millsaps and family were visiting Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Kenney Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fuller visit ed at Bethlehem Sunday, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Odum. Misses Emma, Ida and Mr. Geo. Smith visited Miss Mamie Odum and Mr. Charlie Morrow Sunday afternoon. Master Green Smith visited Mr. Tharon Hinesly Saturday night Mr. Herchcl Herndon visited Mr. John Hinesly Saturday and Sun day. Mrs. P. W. KennJy jvas very sick last Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Lou Smith is very sick at this writing. Several from here attended preaching at the Holiness church last Sunday. Mrs. J. H. Bedingfield visited Bethlehem Friday afternoon. Miss Lora Chandler, who has been very sick, is some better at this writing. Several from here are talking of going to Ebernezer next Sunday to hear the Wages family, of Athens sing.
