Mighty hot these days, hut we are done work and are having a good time going to big meetings, eating watermelons, telling fish tales, going to see the girls, taking in piemen, celebrations, union rallies and playing hall. The “New Hope Thinker,” as Jim Bagwell calls him. addressed the citizens of Cedar Hill Saturday evening in the interest of the Farm ers’ Union. Brother Smith, in his address, sowed some good seed, and we hope they will fall in good ground and the union grow and prosper till it reaches the notch that Newt Gresham prayed for before he died. Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Skinner, of Smithonia, are on an extended visit to the latter's fattier, Mr. J. W Poster. Mr. James Hardy and family are visiting relatives in Gwinnett this week- Mr. G. \V. Batchelor, of near llosehton, passed through and spent the night with his daughter, en route to south Georgia. Mrs- E. W. Greoson is very ill at this writing. Gums we are going to have the picnic Saturday, August 1. The program is not complete yet, hut we’ll have dinner at 12 o’clock, ball game at 2:20. So come on, Duke, and bring the whole force. Mrs. Emma Clack and children spirit Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. llarvil DeLay. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Waters, of Campton, spent Sunday with Mr. Casper's family. Mrs. T. A. Smith and Mrs. Will Williams pent Monday with their mother, Mrs. W. A. I’atton. Very large crowds are attending the meetings at Bethlehem and He bron this week. Mrs. Emma Attaway has returned home. Mrs. R. E. Clack and son, Paul, spent Sunday night in our burg. The Farmers Union at this place gave a supp- r last Saturday. All report a good time. STATHAM. Mr. E. L. Williamson, of .Jeffer son, was here Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Millard Whitehead are in Athens with relatives. Col. J. F. Holmes has returned from Watkinsville superior court. Miss Myrt Arnold is at home from Atlanta Business college for a vacation. The Statbam and Bethlehem ball teams played a game here Tuesday afternoon with a score of 4 to 5 in favor of Bethlehem. The boys played good ball. Mr. Sim David,of Maysville, was the guest of his sister, Mrs. Bennie McDonald, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Edgar were in Athens Tuesday shopping. The ice cream supper given by the ladies of the Baptist church was in every detail a perfect success. They realized quite a neat sum. Mr. Van Fergurson, of Pitts, Ga., was in the city this week shaking hands with his many old Jackson county friends. A party of our’people are going on a camping trip to the mountains in August. M rs. J. L. M. Thurmond lias re turned to her home, after a few days’ visit to relatives in Winder. Mrs. Luther and Miss Viola Ar nold were in Athens this week with relatives. The friend? of the well known Griffeth family were shocked at the death of Mr. Jack Griffeth, and they have the sympathy of many good friends in Stathain. Little Bernice and Eugene Cheeley, of Bogart, are spending the week with their aunt, Mrs. Holmes. The High Shoals baseball team will play our hoys on the Stathain diamond Friday. Come out, hoys, and see the game of your life. It will be a hot game and the Statham boys | have already got on their winning clothes. Mr. Luther Arnold was in Athens on business this week- Mr. and Mrs. Holcomb are in Milton county for a month’s stay with relatives. The horse swappers' reunion will be held here on the 18th 14th and loth of next month, and the boys are looking for a big crowd and a general good time. It is being well advertised. Valuable improvements arc being made on the Methodist church build ing. Quite a party of our young peo ple enjoyed a moonlight straw ride Tuesday evening, given in of Miss Mvrt Arnold and Mis^Almond Taylor. In the party were: Misses Myrt Arnold, Pauline McAdams, Sadie Lowe, Ruth Arnold, Almond Taylor; Messrs. Ed Chambers, Wil lie Cooper, Holland Willingham, Custer Rose, Edgar Lowe, I. H. B. Lowe, Charlie Lester, Carl Thur mond, W. A. Wofford, Dewitt Gwinn. Col. and Mrs. Holmes were with the party, and it was a merry evening for the younger set. CORINTH. We are still very dry in this community. Several from here attended preaching at Bethlehem Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fuller were visiting relatives at Mansfield and Covington latter part of last week. Mrs. J. T. Hindsley, Mrs. 0. A. Johnson and Miss Bertie Wiley vis ited Mrs. Carrie Whitley Saturday * afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Fuller, of Mansfield, Ga., is visiting relatives in this community. Mr. Charlie Morrow, Misses Ber tie Wiley and Mamie Odum visited Misses Pearl and 'Emily Morrow, of New Chapel, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hindsley, Mrs. 0. A. Johnson and Mr. .John Hindsley visited Mr. and Mrs. Tliaron Hindsley Monday. The'prayer meeting at Mr. Will Holloway’s Sunday evening was quite a success and enjoyed by all present. Miss 11a Cronic, of Central, is visiting Misses Myrt and Ola Smith this week. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fuller at tended preaching at Omer Tuesday night. Smith is at Bethle hem this week doing some work for his brother, Mr. Green W. Smith. A large crowd attended the cot tage prayer services held at Mr. Will Holloway’s Sunday afternoon. Marguerite Russell has returned from a pleasant visit to friends in Athens. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Meadows are spending the week with their'•par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith. Mrs. Leeroy Morris, we are very sorry to learn, is on the sick list this week. Misses Mary Willie and Ina Rus sell are attending a house party in Elberton, given by Miss Annell Dillard. Judge R. B. Russell is at home this week,having work done on our streets- Our town is on a little boom. What we like now to help build it is a church and school. ' Little Harriet Russell is visiting her grandmother this week below Athens. Fur a good, every-day household angel, give us a woman who laughs. Home is not a battlefield, nor life one Lng unending row. A trick of always seeing the bright side, or if the tiling has no bright side, of shining up the dark one is a very important facualty and one of the things no woman should be born without. We are not all born with the sunshine in our hearts, as the Irish prettily phrase it, but we can cultivate a cheerfull sense of humor if we only try. —Exchange.
