STATHAM AND ITS PEOPLE. (Mir people wore saddened by the death of one of our b< st and oldest citizens. I hide Patman Lester died last Wednesday evening at 10 o'clock, at his home on Broad street. Mr. Lester was 71 years of age, and was indeed a good man, leaving a host of friends and rela tives to mourn. The remains were interred in the family hurrying ground near Bogart. The Twentieth Century Literary Society gave a most delightful in tertainment Friday night, the pro gram Meing complete. The entire faculty of the '•chool, besides other speakers, entered into the contest. Prof. Massey, of Monroe, S. ('., has been in the city and has given several performances at the audi torium. Ayeoek, of the United States Marin**, is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ayeoek, on a sixty days furlough. Miss Girtrude Ross, of Pent‘.cost, •w as the guest of Mrs. Jim Haynie, this week. Capt. W. A- Wofford was in Lvwrencoyille this week on busi ness. Mrs. J. R. Coker, of Winder, was the guest of her daughter, Miss ■ ■■■ spent the week-end with her parents, of this city. Mr. and Mrs. l>avid of Maysville are guests of their daughter, Mrs. Bennie McDonald. Mr. David is a tine old gentleman, and is an in teresting conversationalist. He is tax collector of Banks county. Mr. J. I. Burson has purchased the home place of the late G. N. Arnold on Broad street. Miss Claude Coker was in Winder Sunday with home folks. Mrs. Florence Bell was with her parents here this week. Mrs. W. T. Power, of Oglesby, is in the city, the guest of Mrs. J- B. Check. Miss- Myrt Arnold has been at home for a few days- She has gone to Athens, where she has accepted a position as stenographer. Miss Bertha McDonald, of Pen tecost, has been in the city for sev- oral days, the guest of her brother, Rev. W. B. McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Golden Norris, of Atlanta, spent the week-end with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tolbert Lester.
