The public schools will close Fri day for Christmas holidays. The little ones are happy. Many of the people of Winder attended the singing at Chapel Sun day. All report a good time. Mrs. .T. E. Wright, of Mountain „ district, Walton county, is visiting < her Mrs. Callie Millsans. Mr. B. F. Maffett’s little son fed on the tloor a few days ago and broke his leg. The little fellow is doing well. ** Mr. Peyton Meadow, of near the Agricultural College, has secured a house and will move to Winder at an early day. We welcome the family of Mr* K. L. Hill, who have moved into j, the Lamar house on Broad street. They come from Hoschton- Mr. Hill is ttie popular superintendent of the oil mill. Mrs. Steve Johnson has moved to Jefferson, j Mrs. T. A. Maynard is in Bishop with relatives. Mrs. L. H. Roberts left Saturday for Athens, where she will spend Christmas. Mr. (i. C. Reeves has moved his family here from Bold Springs and has entered the insurance Held. Mrs. W. W. Hinton is at Com nerce, where six* was called to the bedside of her son-in-law, Mr. J, I). Kiee, who is very sick. Miss Lena Aderholt, the popular milliner at J. T. Strange & Co’s, after a successful season, left Wed nesday for her home in Fairburn, Ga. Mr. J. 1;. Lanier and family left Sunday for Misissippi. Mr. Lanier is touring the state of Mississippi with a view of investing in farm lands. Mr. Fate Sims had the misfor tune to lose a fine mule this week. He was driving along Broad street, Winder, when the mule suddenly ream! up and fell dead. Mrs. Emory Williamson, of Au gusta, accompanied by Mrs. S T. Ross, whose guest she has l>een for the past week, left Tuesday for Jef ferson to visit relatives. The coffee used at the oyster sup per Thurday night vvas the product of the Luzianne Coffee Company, of New Orleans. It vvas pronounced by many to be an excellent coffee. Prof. J. L. Moore, of Bethlehem, was in Winder Wednesday. Mr. Moore’s new book, “Happy Voice No. 3,” will be ready for delivery February, 1909. He is now con ducting a singing class of 75 at Bethlehem. Mrs. Marvin Maynard is visiting relatives in Opelika, Ala. Don’t miss the spelling Bee at the Opera House Monday night. Miss Bessie Ham leaves tomorrow for .Jackson, where she goes to spend the holidays with her parents. Misses Starr Blasingame and Pauline Camp will be home for Christmas from Brenau next Sat urday. Rev. S. W. Arnold, P. A* Flani gan and Warren Toole are odds-on favorites in the spelling Bee Mon day night. Business of much importance to every Baptist of Winder will lx' brought up next Sunday night. Come out. Mr. Rufus Callahan returned Monday from ('rawfordville, where; he has been visiting relatives for several days. * Mis? Flanigan made a busi ness trip to Jefferson Wednesday in his Buiek, accompanied By his wife and Mrs. F. \\\ Bondurant. Mr. C. M. Kenimer, manager of the Fidelity Mutual of Philadelphia, has been in the city for several days with the F. W. Bondurant Agency. Messrs. W. B. Jordan, H. W Hill and .J. T. Hogan, of Longview, were in Winder Tuesday purchas ing lumber for the purpose of im proving the school house and Odd Fellows’ hall at that place. We clip the following from today’s Constitution: Athens, Ga., Dec. lfi. —Pierce Whitehead, who lost and SI,OOO in jewels at Winder a few nights since, was lucky enough to find them again Monday. He and the city marshal were hunting for them, and in a roll of old carpet in the Granite hotel Mr. Whitehead came across them.
