GOOD GOVERNMENT CLUB
Determined Men Would Rid Winder
of “Bind Tigers” and Trashy
Literature.
A Good Government Club for the
city of Winder was formed at the
Methodist church Sunday afternoon.
It has been rumored for some
time that whisky was being sold in
high places in Winder in open vio
lation of law. This rumor reached
the ears of Rev. W. T. Hunnicutt,
who took the matter up at prayer
meeting Wednesday a week ago,and
it is said some hot discussions were
had upon the subject. Rev. Hun
nicutt called the meeting for Sun
day afternoon and poured hot shot
into any church m unbcr who
would stand back and say blind
tigers could not be closed. In the
course of his remarks he made the
statement that every member of the
church might go home and lock
himself in and he cou Id take the
men who drink whisky and close
every blind tiger in the city.
But the church members did not
show any inclination to go home.
They were there from all denomina
tions, and they were there for busi
ness.
Rev. John Wood was there to
add his hearty condemnation of sin,
and preached one of the best ser
nions along moral lines we ever
heard fall from his lips.
Cob W. H. Quarterman told a
pathetic story of the effects of drink
which had recently come under his
observation at Jefferson Iconrt, and
vsUen he took his seat you could
plainly read in the faces of the de
termined men present that “blind
tig rs must go,” and the man who
disregards this warning further is
g >ing to have bad luck.
When a collection was called for
to buy up all the “Broad Brims,”
“Jesse James,” and other trashy
literature in Winder the required
amount was raised almost imme
tely.
,4*. H. Toole made a motion that
an executive committee composed
of three members from each of the
churches of Winder be appointed
to formulate plans, rules and reg
ulations to govern the club. The
motion carried and the following
-committee was named:

CAST WEEK WAS A RECORD BRAKER FOR
STRANGE. & COMPANY.
Our girls worked night and day turning out Millinery,
that we might not disappoint any lady for Sunday. The
stream of customers in our store was a picturesque sight,
chatting and making their purchases and looking at the
many new arrivals. Over in the men’s department looked
like a bee hive, with men buying Strause Suits, matching
up Stetson Hats and Boyden and Crossett Shoes. A won
derful week’s business the public will attest. Why? We
sell only first=class goods at the right prices-as up-to-date
styles as can be found in a metropolitan store. When we
say it is right you can depend upon it. We are justly
proud of our trade, but humbly thankful to the good peo
ple for their patronage.
