'Througli special committees, we
have exanrued the books and re
cords of the several oflieers of the
county, with reports as follows;
We find the ordinary’s books and
records very neat and correctly kept,
so far as we arc able to judge.
We find the county commission
ers, F. L. Pendergrass and A. U.
books correct as far as
we aiv able to aseeitain.
We find the books and records of
the clerk of the Superior court neatly
and correctly kept. We wish to es
pecially commend him for the use of
typewritten records.
We find the books of the clerk of
the city court neatly and correctly
kept, as far as we are able to find.
We find the treasurer’s books to
ho neatly and correctly kept, and
find vouchers for all money pud out
and cash on hand to balance. We
desire especially to commend the
treasurer for his neatness and accu
racy and systematic way in which
hi< books and vouchers are kept.
We find the sheriff’s books and
records in veiy good condition and

him for the systematic way in which

in reasonably good repair. We rec
ommend that a cement floor be put

We find all the books of J. Ps.

We find sufficient tools for the full
force to work with. We find 12
pigs, 3 old hogs. We find that the
boss of camp lias preaching once a
month for prisoners. Dr. Sanders
is the camp physician. We find 1
set of blacksmith tools, 1 tent (>ox2o
for black men, 1 tent 20x10 for
white men, 1 tout 120x1 A for mess
ball. The tents are floored with
nice tongue and grooved Mooring,
made in sections Ixlo so they ear.

We find at the pauper farm 7 in

well pleased and having a good
word for the superintendent and his
wife. We make the same recom
mendations as the last grand jury
in regard to the repairs needed on
buildings and out houses. We find

pers, and that they lie paid 810.00
each.

this body, and for the fearless man
ner in which he administers justice
to violators of the law.
We desire to express our regards
to our very able Solicitor General
Clifford Walker for the fearless and
efficient manner in which he dis
charges the duties of his office
We wish to express our thanks
to our worthy foreman for the fear
less and impartial manner in which
he discharged his duties as foreman
of this body.
We wish to extend to Mr. W. W.
Dickson, our clerk, our sincere
thanks for the neat and correct man
ner in which he has kept the re
cords of this body.
We also desire to thank Mr. J.
H. A. Simmons, our efficient bail
iff, for the faithful manner in which
he has discharged the duties of his

Report of Ch’ll. Com: Roads and
Revenues. To the Grand Jury, Feb.
Term, ’O9:
As required by law, the board of
commissioners of roads and revenue
through its chairman, submits to
you the following report of the fi
nancial condition of the county, its
roads, bridges, paupers, buildings,
etc.
The report of the county treasur
er, which you will have before you,
will give you in detail the condition
of the treasury. 111 addition to Ids
report, there is some other out
standing indebtedness of the county
consisting of two notes given to the
Austin Western Cos., for road ma
chinery, by the foimer chairman,
aggregating $050.90, maturing on
Feb. 1, ’O9. Also, a couple of notes
of $1,090 and interest each, one of
them being past due since Jan. 1,
1908, these two notes being in favor
of Port Huron Engine W Thresher
Company. There may be some
other out-standing obligations which
have not been presented and we
therefore have no record of same.
The public roads of the county
are not in the best condition, but
we hope to remedy all defects at the
earliest possible d:.te. All di.-triet
commissioners have been appointed
and urged to repair all the places at
once-
The paupers and pauper farm are
in good condition, and we refer you
to the superintendent’s report.
The public buildings are. all in
good repair.
The bridges are all passable, but
some of the floors need repairs, and
we have ordered all repairs made.
We are arranging to have Price’s;
Thompson s, and Hurricane Shoals
bridges covered and Potter’s bridge
boar led in.
