Mr. Ed, I regret very much hav
ing delayed so long in making any
report ns to what we are doing in
Statham, hut I have been away of
late st* much.
Everything and everybody in
Statham are moving along just as
nicely as any people can, for we
have no sick list to report this time,
and the summer months have been
spent in visiting and resting under
the shade of the trees, going fishing,
and such other innocent amuse
ments.
One of the most delightful events
of the season was the moonlight
picnic given by Mrs. James F.
Holmes to her Sunday school class
of young ladies, Friday evening at
the Nickelson Springs. Those pres
ent were: Misses .Sallie Lowe, Jew
ell McDonald, Lillian Martin, Ed

Osborn, Lona Ross, Bertha Nickel
son, Messrs, Edgar Ilamtnond,
Choice Cooper, Newt Edgar, Luther
Guinn, Ottiee Campbell, Grover
Cooper, Charlie Ross and L H. B.
Lowe. The party was chaperoned
by C’ol. and Mrs. Holmes.
The Statham High school opened
Monday morning with appropriate
ceremonies. An hour was devoted
to the memory of Asberry ('row,
who was a pupil of the school, and
who was drowned some weeks ago.
A beautiful tribute was paid his
memory by Prof. A. 1* Watkins,
superintendent .of the Statham
school. An address was delivered
by Col. J. F. Holmes to the student
body, in which he made reference
to the needs and opportunities of
an education. He also gave an
open-hearted welcome to the now
students and the new teachers on
behalf of the institution and its
officers. The school begins the sea

QUITE DRY ENOUGH.
Each Sunday the parson rode three
miles to church. On this particular
Sunday it was raining very hard.
He rode the distance on horseback
and, when he reached the church
was soaking wet.
Several of the good old sisters
who were there early placed a chair
before the tire for him and hung
his wet coat up to dry.
“I am so afraid that I won’t be
dry enough to preach,” he said.
“0,” said one of the sisters,
“when you get in the pulpit and
start preaching, you will be dry
enough.'
