mons is very sick at this writing.

week they failed to report to yours

Several from here went to the
baptizing at White Plains Sunday.
Eleven were buried in the liquid
grave.
Hon. C. M. Thompson informed
us that Tyro made a home run Fri
day. A big barbecue and some
good speeches.
Exhibitions galore. One last
Friday night at Oak Grove, a com
mencement at Elmwood Monday
and Tuesday nights, and one at
Ebenezer next Friday night. Maybe
we’ll get to go seme. Hope so.
We have be< n requested to state
that then* will be p, singing at Elx*-
nezer next Sunday afternoon.

Say, Mr. Editor, would like to
ask you a question. Has the time
of the year come for people to go a

low’s house the other day and he

Yes, we had a good meeting at
Ebenezer; had good crowds, and
some able and instructive sermons
by the pastor. Home of the mem
bers were busy saving forage, and
never got to go much, and some of
them were busy building line houses
for cold and rainy weather. The
preacher seemed to think they
should be getting ready for the day
of fire.

Well, what’s the world coming
to? Yes, it’s coming to an end. But
what else a re’people going to try to
do? Just what about people trying
to muzzle an old rooster to keep
him from crowing! Why, tie* poor
old bird hasn’t got but one horn,
and 1 believe he ought to he allow
ed to blow it. But those town
folks don’t want to i>e disturbed
from their slumber every morning
Well they ought not to sit up so late
at night and dance and play cards.
They ought to go l>y the old rule,
which is early to bed and early to
rise, prepares a man for a home in

WALNUT.
Several from here will enter
school at Perry-Kaincy this fall.
Cotton is opening rapidly, but
the crop is far short.
School will close Friday night
with a box supper. The best boxes
by the l e-t girls for the best money.

It is reported that Mr. E. F
Castleberry will move near us this
fall We are proud to have such
men as him in our community, and
especially our door neighbor.

the charm. On Sunday evening
Willie Evans and Wade Banks w* re
drawing straws to see who would
c irry the school teacher to singing.
Wad * won first priz * three time-,
and then had to bow to Evans.
Too bad.
We have been unable to write
from this point for sometime. We
lmve been on the sick list for about
two and a half months. This being
lour first sickness, it goes a little
hard with us. Yet we know it
, takes a little sickness to make us
properly appreciate health.
Mrs. Ina Barnett and her two
daughters, Marelle ami Susie, are
on the sick list. Hope they may
; soon recover.
We have a real interesting debat
ing society at this place. On next
Saturday night we will have a joint
debate, discussing the subject, “Re
solved, That mineral is more ben
eficial to man then brute-” The
debate will t>c between the societies
of Walnut and Fairview- The
public is cordially invited to attend.
The Carter Hill scrilK* asked if
any one could tell the two chapters
in the Bible that are exactly alike.
They are the 37th Isaiah and the
19th chapter of Second Kings. Now
will someone tell me how many
times the word reverend occurs in
the Bible?
Scribbler says the man who never
makes mistakes is mighty un
interesting- We are of the opinion
that the man who never makes
mistakes never makes anything
else.
W<* wish The News much success
in the big contest for the next ten
weeks. It is a big undertaking and wc
wish it liberal support. Already the
best weekly paper to be bad, we
look for bi tter tilings when the con
test ends, Give us a real live eight
page semi-weekly. (That is what
