DAUGHTERS Of THE CONTEDERACY To Entertain at Oyster Supper Friday Niqht. Tn view of the coming entertain ment of the Daughters of the Con fedreacy we would like to write a short notice about ous work. Several years ago this chapter decided that instead of a monument to our Con fed; ate dead, we would erect at the entrance of our cemetery a gateway not as marking in any way a Confederate cemetery for such onrs is not, hut as a memorial to our soldier dead, and incidentally as both useful and ornmental to our whole community. From time to time we have had small entertain ments and raiel small funds. We now have somethimg over one hundred and fifty dollars in our treasury which is not nearly enough for an iron, granite or marble gate way. Our wish is to erect something of which we may he proud at the pr< s *nt time, and which we would not be ashamed of no matter how large our city many become. We think it should be the privei* lege of every individual citizen to help in this work, so that each one may point with pride to it, and claim a part in it. So come out and help us on Friday and we promise that each one served shall receive his money’s worth, Mrs. W. H. Quarterman, President local Chapter U. D. C. THt MATRONS’ MEET. Mrs. \V- O. Perry entertained the young Matrons’ Club in a most delightful manner on Tuesday after noon of last week. The entire lower floor was thrown open to the guests, the beauty of the home be ing greatly enhanced by the use of hollowe’en decoration,in connection with many pot plants and lieautiful cut flowers. On arriving delightful persim mon beer and candy were served in the living room, by Misses Annie Perry and Kcena Hill. In the same room a merry contest of biting a suspended apple created much laughter. Forty-two was the afternoon's game, the score cards futher em phasizing the hallowe’en idea. Mrs. C. O. Niblack and Mrs. H. C- Smith drew for the first prize, a daunty work bag, Mrs. Smith received it. Mrs. W. L. Hodges, receiving the consolation, a danty linen center piece. After the game, a delicious calad course, with iced tea, was served. The club will next be entertained by Mrs. H. C. Smith, on Friday afternoon, Oct. 2^. It’s A Long Walk To As Good A Stock.
