Mr. H. M. Rutledge has moved
into his new residence.
Mrs. Fayette Sims and bright lit
tle daughter were the guests of Mrs.
A. J. Sims Thursday afternoon.
Miss Leila Hoseh, of Hoschton*
is visiting relatives here.
Tabitha, the little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Sims, fell under
a wagon wheel last Wednesday, the
wheel passing over her head and
severing one of her ears. The wound,
while quite painful, we hope will
soon yield to skillful treatment.
A great many of our farmers are
preparing to sow wheat and other
small grain.
Mr. Henry Queen and family
were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H.
M. Rutledge Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Casey, of
near Chapel, were the guests of Mr.
Queen’s family recently.
We are glad to see Miss Essie
Mae Maughon out again after sev
eral weeks’ illness of fever.
Mrs. Job L. Hill has our tcnder
est sympathy .in the death of her
father, Mr. J. L. Griffin, who was
buried at Bethlehem last week.
Several from here attended the
funeral.
The rally was quite a success last
Sunday afternoon. The singing,
with Professor Moore and several
other good singers as leaders, was
simply fine. There were visitors
from Winder, Hoseh ton, Annum,
Bethlehem and all around.
Miss Sarah Harrison, of Bethle
hem, is the guest of her sister, Mrs.
G. W. Fuller, this week-

IN MEMORIAM.
Whereas, The Grand Architect
of the Universe has entered our
midst and called from our number
Brother H. T. Shepherd to his
eternal rest above; therefore, lie it
Resolved, That in in his death
Adel Lodge, No. 310, has lost a
noble, worthy and greatly beloved
brother. Brother Shepherd was
born in February, 1840, and died
on September 7th, 1909, and was
buried with Masonic honors by
Adel and Sparks lodges, at Sparks,
Ga., on September Bth, 1909. He
was a consistent Mason, devoted to
the order, having joined soon after
he reached the age of twenty-one,
and remained a Mason for forty -
eigi.t years, or nearly half a century,
and some years ago was made a
Royal Arch Mason. When about
nineteen years of age he united with
the Missionary Baptist church upon
a profession of faith in Jesus Christ,
and remained a true and faithful
member throughout life, and died
in the faith.
Resolved, That the heartfelt sym
pathy of this lodge lie extended to
the bereaved family, relatives and
friends.
Resolved, That a copy of these
resolutions Ik> sent to the lx*reayed
family, one to the Masonic Herald
and one to the Winder News, Win
der, (la., for publication, and the
same be spread upon the minutes
of this lodge.

WIFE SICK, MAN IN DEBT

Despondent over the illness of
his wife, who underwent an opera
tion ten days ago at th(* Michael
Reese hospital. C. Wilcr, employed
by the Western Electric company,
attempted to commit siieide yester
day afternoon by jumping into Lake
Michigan at Kenilworth.
Dr. George L. Chapman, 2431
North Clark street, saw his attempt
and leaped into the lake, dragging
him to the shore.
“My wife is sick and I am much
in debt,’’said Wiler at the hospital.
“I thought I wanted to die, but the
water was so cold I felt that I
wanted to live, and screamed for
help.”
