sold his plant at Vidalia, Georgia,

as successful here as at other

plant to Messrs J. B. Parham and
Gland H. Cook, two experienced
men well known here, and who
will add much to the success of
the News.

CONSIDERABLE MOVING
. THIS WEEK AMONG OUR
CITIZENS AND SCAR
CITY OF HOUSES.
The first of the year brings a
bout many changes of location a
mong the residents of a city as
well as the business firms.
There is still a scarcity of hou
ses in Winder and some families
have been prevented from becom
ing valuable citizens simply for
the lack of homes in which to
move.
There 'cm also been much dif
ficulty in a number of mercantile
fpms finding locations and some
if them have been forced to oc
cupy the second floors of business
houses.
Among the changCvS among our

take over the large storeroom ad
joining them, now occupied by
J. W. Summerour, and Mr. Sum
merour will move into the 1\ inder
National Rank building in the
quarters now occupied by the
Winder Dry Hotels store.
The Winder Dry Goods store
has leased the sorerooms, on be
low and one above, made vacant
by the Parkes Furniture Cos. which
has moved into the Griffith build
ing on Athens street, the former
home of J. N. Summerocr, who has
token the second door over A. X.
Eberhart for his furniture Em
porium.
Mrs. Vaugh has gone into rooms
of the second floor of the t ourt
house building and Carrington
Pros, will occupy the store she
left.

CHRISTMAS TREE AT
| CHAPEL.
The Christmas tree at Chapel
church was one of the best ot the
holidays, having two large holly
trees with the tops pulled together,
.decorated with the season’s colors
and covered with many nice pres-
cuts.
Every one seemed to enjoy the
evening. Many eoinpliments were
heard about the tree and program
thot had been arranged and es
pecially the singing of little Sy
bil Williams.
The writer of this hopes he ran
have the pleasure of being there
at many more such occasions.

Mr. C. M. Ferguson returned
from Birmingham Alabama, Tues
day afternoon, where lie went a
few days ago to attend a meeting
of the directors of the Bankhead
Highway.
This was a splendid and har
monious gathering of the officials
of this great highway of a purely
business nature, dealing with mat
ters concerning this big umlertak
|ing, which when completed will
j mean ho much to Winder. Barrow
It-ounty and the state.
Mr. Furgeson as one of the di
j rectors, was highly pleased with
the Birmingham meeting and the,
reports of other directors from
the different states.

Mr. Henry C. Rogers, of Stan

thers. Messrs Put Rogers of Win
der. and L. L. Rogers of Bethle
hem, and other relatives.
He was accompanied by Mis.
Rogers and their four children.
Henry Rogers left here 21 years
ago for Texas, when only eleven
vein's old, a: and this wan his first

during those 21 years and he
could hardly recognize. Winder

men of the Loyal Gourds class of
the Christian church held their
regular rnonlhh business meeting
at the home of their teacher Mrs.

meeting of the yeat quite a good
deal of business "as transacted
and a great interest and enthusi
asm wus manifested by those pres
ent. An orchestra and quartette
was organized to he known as the
Loyal founds Orehestrn.
After the election of officers tor
the ensuing year, the guests were
invited into the sun-parlor where
.sandwiches and punch were ser
ved. Music on the edison and by
the ondtestra were enjoyed until
it lute hour. These are great
meetings and mean much 1o this
wonderful class, who are accom
plishing great things for good.

OPEN IN WINDER
A now drug store will throw
lopen it’s doors to the public in a
I few days to be known as The Win
der Drug Company.
The firm will he composed of
Dr. E. W. Oliver, recently here,
and Mr. Harold Herrin.
Dr. Oliver is a physician and
druggist of reputation and comes
to our city highly indorsed.
The people of Winder and this
section all know Harold Herrin
and his popularity is equaled by
few.
These two gentlemen will have
nu entirely nevv and fresh stock
[of drugs and also u prescription
department, occupying the corner
of the Winder Naional Bank
building fronting on Gaudier
street.
Winder is large enough for
three drug stores and all of them
can do well.
The Winder Drug Store will
start off with bright prospects
and indulges the hope h may
share a liberal portion of the pat
ronage, promising polite and ef
ficient service and a desire to
please the people generally.
