DO WE NEED A NEW DANK?
The writer hereof has been impor
tuned over and over to begin the work
of organizing anew bank in Jackaon.
The charge has been openly made
that the two banka now in existence
are under one management, and no
one bts ever denied the charge.
I desire to test the sentiment of the
people, especially the farmers of the
County. All of the farmers, or any
one else, who believe the time has
ocme for the organization of anew
bank in Jackson whiob will be INDE
PENDENT of any such institution
now in existence in the town, will
please address a lsttei to “New
Bank,”
Jackson, Ga.
and If a sufficient number Beem to be
interested in the movement I will
call a Mass-meeting for the purpose
of dismissing the advisability of open
ing the stock book for subsbriptions.
$10,000.00 has already been prom
ised. The letters addressed “New
Bank” will raacn me. This Oct. 10-07.

Commissioners Defeated.
The election on the adoption or re
jection of County Commissioners on
the 11th resulted in the defeat of th
measuere. On this we desire to con
gratulate the people of the countty.
The machinery was too cumbersome
to be useful.
The fact is that there are too many
big hearted strong willedAnglo-Saxon
voters in Carroll county to quietly sit
down and Ist a half dozen men, no
mattar who they may be, do their
thinking for them, The day has
happily passed when this can be done.
Nevertheless all recognize that
some change Is needed; some relief
must be had. The Ordinary cannot
attend to the affairs of his office and
discharge the duties of supervising
'he roads, bridges and a thousand
aad one things pertaining to a gaeat
county like ours.
From every section of tho county
comes a well nigh universal demand
for a single commissioner for the
county to look after her roads, bridges
and revenues. A commissioner to be
elected by tho people and to be re
responsible to them in a sufficient
bond to guarantee their faithful dis
charges and who should assiduously
devote hie entire time to the county s
business. No one man can discharge
the duties now devolving upon the
Ordinary.—Carroll County Times.
Gold Is nearly twice ns heavy us sil
