On the pleasant day of August

Mrs. Bryant was born at Monti
cello, Ga., May 2nd, 1835, and
joined the church of her home
town in 1852. She was sick only
fifteen days, and during that
time suffered intense pain.
She was modest and retiring,
loved the quiet of home, and
truly, “She looked well to the
ways of her household.” She
was a thoughtful and self-sacri
ficing mother, a zealous and
faithful Christian. Who can
estimate the worth of such a life
to the world? Though the body
lies mouldering in the clay, the
lessons that she taught; the
grand sentiments that she utter
ed; the holy deeds of generosity
by which she was characterized
still survive, and appear in the
silence of eventide, and on the
tablets of memory. And being
dead, she yet speaks eloquently.

Her Godly influence which has
been an inspiration to those who
knew her, will ever deepen and
broaden till it rolls forth in the
acclaim of the hundred and forty
and four thousand who have
broken their last chains and wept
their last sorrows. She possessed
a combination of qualities of
mind and heart which made it a
pleasure to know her. She had
a great heart always yearning
sor the salvation of men; and ex
ecutive hand to fasten her work,
and a character so strong and
Christ-like it illuminated every
thing she did.
“Good night sweet friend,
And flights of Angels
Sing thee to thy rest.”
What an unspeakable comfort
is the assurance that she who
lived so well is now supremely
blessed. She has entered into
her glorious inheritance that is
undefiled and fadeth not away.
“Blessed are the dead who die in
the Lord. They rest from their
labors and their works do follow
them.”
Beyond the blackness of sorow’s
night, the stars are always shin
ing, and at the throne of Him
who doeth all things well, may
listening love catch a comforting
whisper of peace. This faithful
servant of the Master was
spared for nearly seventy-three
years—over fifty'five of which
was given to His service.
“Servant of Christ, well done,
Praise be to thy new employ;
And while eternal ages run,
Rest in thy glorious joy.
May her noble Christian life be
a beacon light to gently impel her
loved ones who are left behind,
to prepare to meet her, and when
at last their temporal labors are
finished and they are summoned
to enter that “Bourne from
whence no traveler has ever re
turned, ’ ’ may they go forward in
a halo of hopeful anticipation of
the great beyond.

AT THE METHODIST GHUBOH
*
Quite a large audience was
present at the Methodist cnurch
last Sunday night to hear the
first of the special series of ser
mons for young men and young
ladies. being delivered by Rev. S.
P. Wiggins. The subject was
“The Beautiful Life,” being- a
portrayal of the ideal life for a
young woman. The theme
proved most interesting to the
audience, which listened very in
tently and appreciatively.
Next Sunday night the theme
will be “The Message for Young
Men.” Special music will be
rendered. This will be a special
service for young men, and you
will be given a cordial welcome.
Those who heard Major Guinn
last Sunday morning were de
lighted, and were greatly inter
ested in his description of the
great movement centering in the
“Wesley Memorial Enterprises,”
including the hospital and an
Institutional church.
