of rural routes.
How about cleaning up the
court house square?

If you have a pet scheme for
handling the cotton situation trot
it out.
Trade at home and keep your
money in circulation among home
people.
Of all the schemes advanced to
solve the cotton problem old hog
and hominy is the best.
A lot of people are looking to
Washington for help instead of
trying to help themselves.
Uncle Sam is going to see that
the banks help the farmer or give
up the emergency currency.
The best time to reduce your
cotton acreage is this fall. Plant
plenty of grain, wheat, oats, clo

If every man would realize that
it takes ninety-nine dollars to re
establish a credit that was lost
by a one dollar debt, all men
would pay their bills more
promptly. —J acques.

The constitutional amendments
creating the four new counties
should be ratified by the voters
in the November election. Most
of these county movements have
been before the people for years
and they are familiar with the
merits of the various claims. Put
in a vote for the new counties
and let’s welcome them into the
fold.
MANY AMENDMENTS
i
No less than eight constitution
al amendments are to be ratified
or rejected by the voters at the
state election, which falls on No
vember 3. The proposed amend
ments are as follows:
Creating the new county of
Barrow.
Creating the new county of
Evans.
Creating the new county of
Candler.
Creating the new county of
Bacon.
Changing the terms of county
officers from two to tour years.
Increasing the salary of the
judge of the Macon circuit from
$3,000 to $5,000.
Authorizing counties to abolish
the office of county treasurer,
when they so desire.
Extending the terms of mem
bers of the general assembly un
til their successors are elected
and qualified.
THE HOME MERCHANT
It is best for you to trade at
home. The Andalusia, (Ala.) Star
prints some unanswerable reasons
why the home merchant is entitled
to the money you spend, and for
the benefit of readers of The Pro
gress we reproduce them below: j
He has credited you through
the summer season and you ought
to give him your cash.
It helps vour town to trade at
home and it helps you.
It costs you less to tradt} at
home, and you can buv every-,
thing vou need here.
When you go elsewhere shop
ping you are taking money out of
circulation at home, and you have
to pay railroad fare and a big
price for what you buy.
When you need help for char
itable institutions to whom do
you go?
To your home merchant.
When you want help of any
sort that is to be secured by pop
ular contributions to whom do
you go?
To your home merchant.
You do not dare apply to the
big houses in other cities for help
for any of these affairs.
Does it not seem right and
proper for you, when you want
to make a purchase, to give your
home merchant the preference?
All things being considered,
isn’t it his due that you give him
an opportunity to supply your
wants?

gently, yet surely, on the weakened womanly organs,
and helps build them back to strength and health.
It has benefited thousands and thousands of weak,
ailing women in its past half century of wonderful
success, and it will do the same for you.
You can’t make a mistake in taking
