Where is the Joe Pottle boom?
Uncle Nat has the inside track
and is running strong.
The citizen who boosts his own
community 365 davs in the year
is a gem of the purest ray serene.
The Georgia Weekly Press As
sociation will be entertained by
the citizens of Decatur next
month. The chicken crop is re
ported large and luscious.
Honest, now, wouldn’t you hate
for Clayt Robinson, Tom Hard
wick and that Rang to nominate
the next governor in a convention?
The voters ought to do their own
choosing.
Editor Fouche is as good an
editor as he was a#public official.
He is giving the people of Henry
county the best paper they have
had since we were acquainted
with the situation.
Do you want to have a voice in
naming the governor or do you
prefer for a few politicians to se
lect the governor in the conven
tion? Better do some studying
then when you go to vote.
When your home paper begs,
advises and pleads with the people
to trade at home and patronize
community institutions, it should
follow' that the home paper be
given the business of the mer
chants.
Funny isn’t it how some old
cusses will kick like a young mule
when they have to spend a few
dollars for the education of their
children, but always have plenty
to pay for excursions, flivvers,
red liquor and other luxuries?

Our neighbor. The Jackson
Progress-Argus, came out last
week with sixteen pages chuck
full of bright home advertise
ments and reading matter. And
it was just the regular run of
business, too, with no special noise
made over it. Editor J. Doyle
Jones is a dandy live wire, with
a dandy good paper.—Henry
County Weekly.

It is reported in political
circles that Murphey Candler
will run against Tom Hard

And it might as well be re
ported that he will walk off
with the job and also at the
same time become one of the
leading members of the Uni
ted States J senate.—DeKalb

The Way, Marion Jackson edi
tor, is one of Governor Harris’
strongest supporters, and he calls
upon the prohibitionists to stand
bv the old war horse of Bibb.
The prohibitionist have Governor
Harris to thank for the present
dry law-.
A good many weekly papers
are supporting Governor Harris
and several are supporting Dr.
Hardman. Only a few seem to
be supporting Dorsey and Pottle
appears to l e minus newspaper
support outside of his home paper
and the Atlanta Journal.
They all take it, its cures are
marvelous, it puts life into run
down systems, rejuvenates the
aged, helps the afflicted, makes
the weak strong, puts courage in
the faint-hearted, tones up the
body, acts as a mental tonic—pub
licty. But they all like it free.
Biennial sessions of the legis
lature will save Georgia thous
ands of dollars every year, mon
ey that ought to be used for edu
cation and other worthy purposes.
Give us biennial sessions of the
legislature and Georgia will go
forward with the well known
leaps and bounds.
"Peach” is the name of anew
county that it is proposed to cre
ate out of parts of Houston and
Macon counties, with Fort Valley
as the capital. New counties
develop the country, cause new
schools and churches to be erect
ed, make for greater prosperity,
and where the cause is merito
rious, as in the present instance,
we’re for more new counties.
Emmet Houser, of Fort Valley,
lawyer, statesman and editor,
was a recent visitor to Jackson.
Colonel Houser is a consistent
booster for the proposed new
countv of Peach, with Fort Valley
as the county site. We’re for
Peach county and for sending
Col. Houser to the legislature as
and reward for his faithful service
in the new county movement.

RIDING A FREE HORSE
A considerable part of the pub
lic makes such free use of such
newspapers as it finds available
that in time they come to be look
ed upon not as business enter
prises but as public conveniences
which have no rights of their
own, but are maintained merely
to make it easy to reach the pub
lic ear. Every newspaper gives
away hundreds, thousands or
hundreds of thousands of dollars’
worth of space according to the
paper’s size and circulation. A
newspaper’s space costs the pub
lisher money—cold, hard cash
even as the lawn or silk in the dry
goods store, or the bacon and
flour in the grocery store, cost
the merchant cash. Nobody
thinks of asking the merchant
for his merchandise, although a
great many folks unhesitatingly
Call on newspapers for as much
valuable space as may be required
for the promotion of whatever
worthy enterprise such folks hap
pen to be interested in. If there
are any cheerful givers in any
profession than the newspapers
we have not discovered them.
They give ungrudgingly, and the
more they give the more they
seem to be wililng to give.—Al
bany Herald.
