SIXTH DISTRICT
POLITICAL "DOPE”
Three Candidates Being
Spoken of
MR. WISE WILL OFFER
JUDGE C. L. BARTLETT, G. OG
DEN PERSONS AND J. WALTER
WISE MAY STAGE THREE COR
NERED CONTEST
It is regarded as altogether likely
that politics in the sixth district wll
begin to loom up within the near fu
ture. There are already rumblings
that may break out at any time.
Hon. J. Walter Wise, of Fayette
ville, present congressman from the
sixth district will be a candidate to
succeed himself. Mr. Wise is now
serving his second term, having been
elected on both occasions without op
position. He has been active in Wash
ington working for the interests of
of his constituents and is a very able
and popular man, numbering his
friends by the thousands. Previous
to his election to congress Mr. Wise
was solicitor general of the Flint cir
cuit and served in the general assem
bly from Fayette county.
Judge Charles L. Bartlett, of Ma
con, who represented the sixth dis
trict in congress for twenty years, re
tiring voluntarily, is regarded as a
proboble candidate. Hon. G. Ogden
Persons, of Forsyth, former president
of the state senate, is also prominent
ly mentioned in this connection. Both
Judge Bartlett and Mr. Persons are
said to be advising with their friends
with a view to entering the race.
Should all the gentlemen run the
sixth district would be treated to a
hotly contested three cornered race
that would afford excitement enough
for all.
Developments in the congressional
situation are expected within the next
few W'eeks. The state primary comes
on September 11 and the candidates
will have a little less than three
months in which to present their
claims to the voters of the twelve
counties composing the sixth district.

Patriotism That Pays
a Profit
IF IT IS asking too much of you to pledge
yourself to save—then certainly it is asking
too much of our Soldiers to pledge their lives.
Don’t grumble secretly to yourself or to
others about the many campaigns. End them
by helping to end the war. The War Savings
Campaign is for the purpose of ending the
war victoriously at the earliest possible mo
ment.
You’ve boasted your patriotism now
PROVE IT! Lend every penny you can save
to Uncle Sam. That’s patriotism that pays a
profit.

MEAT RATION CUT IN GER
MANY HOG STOCKS DWINDLE
In Bavaria the monthly meat ration
has been cut 20 per cent—from 1,000
to 800 grams—according to German
newspapers. The monthly meat ration
in Saxony has been reduced from 800
to 700 grams. Public officials are re
ported in the Prussian press as dis
cussing the possibility of a further
reduction of the bread ration in Prus
sia.
A munich paper reports that from
the beginning of the war to March 1,
1918, Bavaria hog stocks have de
creased from 2,106,312 to 776,391
head. The Danish hog census shows a
decrease from 1,651,000 hogs July
12, 1917, to 789,000 December 5,
1917, or a decrease of one third the
number at the beginning of the war.

Inactive Kidneys
Cause Disease
“I shall not soon forget the benefits I derived
from the us of Foiey Kidney Pills.” —AL A.
Godfrey, Forest Grove, Oregon.
Too much work and too little work
seem to have about the same effect
on persons past middle age. Proper
action of the kidneys is necessary to
good health: They act as a filter
and remove from the blood poisonous
waste matter which if permitted to
remain in the system leads to many:
complications.
Many nervous, tired, run-down men
and women suffer from pains in the
back and sides, dizzy spells, bladder
weakness, sore muscles and stiff
joints and fail to realize that rheuma
tism, diabetes or even Bright’s dis
ease may result.
If you have cause to believe that
your kidneys are weak, disordered or
Inactive you should act immediately.
Foley Kidney Pills have been used
by young, middle aged and old with
complete satisfaction. They act quick
ly and surely and given relief
in cases of ten years’ standing.
