I can hardly walk without holding one
leg stiff. But don’t think that I am
crippled. No, not at all.
I am having most too easy a time.
Nothing to do at all except eat, sleep
and read the papers and books when
ever I wan to, but the eating isn’t
anything extra but it keeps a fellow
going and I am about a s healthy as I
can expect. Think I am having bet
ter health now than I’ve ever had
before. I got a coat about two months
ago and it fit me all right and in
about a month I could hardly button
it up without it choking me.
In the army you are made to wear
your coat buttoned from top to bot
tom. Of course the army coats were
made, to be worn buttoned up and a
man doesn’t appear soldierly with his
coat unbuttoned or his shirt. Mother,
I try to appear as good a soldier as I
can, try to fill my place in ranks and
am doing my best to do my part in
this war and I sure hope and trust
we will win the war with victory.
There has been a great offensive
since July the 14 and the Americans
are playing a big part in it and we
have been successful so far, and I
long for the day to come when vje’ve
got Germany smashed. It looks like
we will have to wipe her clean off the
map to ever bring fihis war to a close
and Uncle Sam will do it, believe me.
Well, guess I had better close.
From your loving son,
CLARENCE.
No Worms in a Healthy Child
All children troubled with worms have an un
healthy color, which indicates poor blood, and as a
rule there is more or less stomach disturbance
GROVE’S TASTELESS chill TONIC given regularly
for two or three weeks will enrich the blood, im

throw off or dispel the worms, and the Child will be
in perfect health. Pleasant to take. 60c per bottle.

“His Majesty, the Kaiser, hears
that you have sacrificed nine

Lincoln’s Letter
To Mrs. Dixby, who lost five sons
in the Confederate war:
“Dear Madam—l have been shown
in the files of the War Department a
statement of the Adjutant General
of Massachusetts, that you are the
mother of five sons who have died
gloriously on the field of battle. I
feel how weak and fruitless must be
any words of mine which should at
tempt to beguile you from the grief
of a loss so overwhelming, but I can
not refrain from tendering to you
the consolation that may be found in
the thanks of the Republic they died
to save. I pray that our Keaveuly
Father may assuage the anguish of
your bereavement and leave you only
the cherished memory of the loved
and lost, and the solemn pride that
must be yours to have laid so costly
a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
“ABRAHAM LINCOLN.”—
In this connection it is interesting
to note that Governor Dorsey, as
governor and as chairman of the
Georgia Council of Defense, and
Mrs. Samuel Inman, chairman of the
Woman’s Committee, Georgia Divis

families of Georgia men who die in
the service expressions of sympathy
and regret. The message goes on an
engraved card, at the top of which
is the seal of Georgia illuminated,
and the message is:
“Governor Dorsey and the Geor

Gentlemen:
Please allow me to state that I have
sold your hog cholera remedy for one
season and have ordered more for
this season. Last year I sold it to 12
or 15 men who raise hogs. I told each
of them to take the remedy, feed it
to their hogs and if they lost a single
hog from disease of any kind not to
pay me a cent for the remedy, but
when they began to sell their cotton
every man came in and paid me for
the medicine and every one of them
told me that it was the best hog med

me for the small package and bought
$5 worth more and said it was the
best he had ever tried.
