BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL
WOMEN MET TUESDAY NIGHT
The Jackson Business and Profes
fdoaal Women’s Club met Tuesday
evening, February 19th, at Bo’clock
at the Woman’s Clubhouse with 29
members present.
Mrs. Helen Spencer, president of
the club, presided over a short busi
ness session after which she introdu
ced Miss Frances Oliver, state pres
ident, of Macon, who welcomed the
Jackson Club as the first to be orga
nized in 1952. Miss Oliver outlined
the objectives of the club and listed
some of the definite projects the
Federation is working on. She urged
the Jackson members to attend the
State Convention whicn will be held
in Atlanta at the Ansley Hotel, May
23-24-25.
Also present from out of town
were Miss Thelma Rickenbacker,
state coresponding secretary, Macon;
Miss Nelle Caldwell, Miss Elsie Hol
lingsworth, Miss Mary Park Stewart,
and Mrs. Elmyr Roberts all of Grif
fin.
Mrs. Mary Sasser, recording sec
retary, read telegrams and letters
of congratulations from various state
officers welcoming the Jackson Club
into the Federation.
Chairmen were named on various
committees by Mrs. Spencer, namely,
Program Coordinator, Mrs. Jane
Powell; Education and Vocations,
Miss Eloise Beauchamp; Health and
Safety, Miss Elizabeth Finley; Inter
national Relations, Sue Ryals; Public
Affairs, Mrs. Julia Fretwell; Mem
bership, Mrs. Winnie Moore; Legisla
tion, Mrs. Gertrude Wright; Finance,
Mrs. Gladys Wilson; News Service,
Mrs. Martha Jones; Radio and Tele
vision, Mrs. Martha Feely.
All business women in Butts coun
ty are eligible to become members
' f this club and the closing date for
< harter members is February 29th.
The next meeting will be held on
Tuesday night, March 4th, at 8
o’clock at the Woman’s clubhouse, at
which time plans will be completed
for the Charter dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Allen are visit
ing Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Allen in
Cairo.

The members of the William Mc-
Intosh Chapter,, Daughters of the
American Revolution, will meet Fri
day afternoon, February 22, at 3:30
o’clock with Mrs. James Buchanan,
Mrs. L. M. Spencer and Miss Eliza
beth Finley at the home of Mrs.
Buchanan. Mrs. Spencer is program
chairman.
JENKINSBURG HD CLUB
The Jenkinsburg HD Club met
Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Harry
Ridgeway with Mrs. H. W. Apple as
joint hostess. Seven members with
Mrs. Cynthia Davis spent the day
slip covering a sofa. At noon a cov
ered dish luncheon was thoroughly
enjoyed.
The president, Mrs. H. G. Harris,
presided over the afternoon session.
A few other members came in at that
time.
An inspiring devotional was given
by Mrs. Harry Ridgeway. Mrs. J. H.
Jackson who always gives a fine de
votional, was called away due to ill
ness.
Mrs. T. H. Price reported that all
members cooperated wonderfully for
names for council calendar.
Miss Ida Gilmore of Bethany
Home, Vidalia, was adopted as the
club’s Shut-in Pal for the year.
Plans were discussed to decorate
the Community House as a Club pro
ject. During the business session the
work on the slip covering was hardly
interrupted, and . the results were
splendid. Everyone agreed the day
had been a delightful and profitable
one.
The hostesses served Coca-Colas
and cookies at the close of the meet
ing.
PERSONAL
Friends of Mr. Lewis Maddox will
be interested to know that he has
returned home after his illness in
both Griffin and Georgia Baptist
Hospital in Atlanta.
James E. Hilley of Brookley AFB,
Mobile, Ala., is visiting his mother,
Mrs. F. E. Hilley, this week. He will
attend the Press Institute in Athens
Friday and Saturday.

FLOVILLA HD CLUB MET
AT CLUBHOUSE FEB. 12
The Flovilla HD Club held a spend
the day meeting at the clubhouse
February 12. In the morning there
was an interesting demonstration on
slip covers, making a beautiful flor
al and green chintz cover for an
overstuffed wing chair for Mrs. Bud
dy Edwards. At the noon hoar there
was a delicious lunch, each member
bringing a covered dish with the
drink and dessert being furnished by
Mrs. Robert Smith and Miss Virginia
Smith. In the afternoon the regular
business meeting was held. It was
opened by singing the club song, fol
lowed by the devotional by Mrs.
Brooks. She read from the 28th chap
ter of Matthew, 19-20 verses, after
which the Lord’s Prayer was repeated
in unison. Mrs. Brooks read a note
from Mrs. J. T. Bray, who has been
ill, thanking each one for the sun
shine box, cards, etc. sent her.
The project committee reported a
decision to work over a safe and
have the piano fixed. For the home
improvement program Mrs. Riley
showed some beautiful table covers,
luncheon sets and pillow tops, some
sent by her son from Eniwetok Is
land.
Mrs. Davis discussed the council
meeting Feb. 16, and also got names
for the club calendar, immunization
for pre-school children and the fair
building.

TO DEDICATE S. S. ROOMS
Sardis Baptist church, Henry coun
ty, will dedicate its new Sunday
School rooms Sunday, March 2nd, at
10:30 a. m. Everybody is invited.
NORTH BUTTS CLUB TO
HAVE POLITICAL RALLY
The North Butts HD Club will
sponsor a political rally at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Collins March
Ist at Bo’clock. All candidates seek
ing election are invited and will be
given free time to speak on the
program. Chicken stew will be ser
ved at 7 o’clock. The public is invi
ted to attend.
VALENTINE PARTY
On February 14 the Intermediate
Baptist Training Union of the Worth
ville Baptist church had a Valentine
party at the community house. There
were 29 present and refreshments
were served and there was a Valen
tine box. Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Moi - -
ris and Mrs. E. T. Stodghill were the
chaperones.

Sgt. Leslie J. Sanders who has
recently returned from Korea, and
Mrs. Sanders are visiting Mrs. San
ders’ parents, Mr .and Mrs. Brae
Hodges Sr., on Monticello Road.

ville, Tenn., Misses Kittie and Minnie

lanta were weekend guests of their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brae Hodges
Sr.
Mrs. Brae Hodges Sr. visited her
daughter, Mrs. Charles Mathias in
Atlanta and Mrs. Paul Ellison in Aus
tell, last week.
Mrs. J. D. McKinnon left Friday
for Washington, D. C, where she will
reside. Sgt. McKinnon is with the
Andrews AFB Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Land spent
Sunday in Macon with Miss Marie
Land.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Turner and
daughter, Nan, and Mrs. Grace Wil
son of Attalla, Ala., were guests Sun
day of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Turner

Mrs. J. S. Robison, Miss Nancy
Ann Robison and Mrs. Lloyd Rowe
spent the weekend in Cedartown with
Mr. and Mrs. John Thurston.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bray had as
their recent guests James F. Daniel,
US Navy, recently stationed at New
port, R. 1., Mrs. Daniel and two sons,
Jim and Tomrpy. Mr. Daniel has been
assigned shore duty at Green Cove
Springs, Fla., and he and his family
left Sunday for residence there. Sun
day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bray
were Mrs. J. M. Ross and Mrs. R. L.
Robertson of Macon, Mr. and Mrs. L.
L. Ross, Betty and Lutricia of At
lanta.
Dicky Addison has returned to his
home in McMinnville, Tenn., after a
visit with Byrd O’Neal Jr.

Friends of Mrs. Frank Hardy are
sorry to learn that she is at the
Macon Hospital where she underwent
a major operation Monday morning,
and hope that she recuperates satis
factorily.
Rev. and Mrs. Kirk Nesbit an
nounce the birth of a daughter, Ka
trina Rainey, February 14, at the
Griff in-Spalding Hospital.
Miss Pat Stewart has returned
from a week’s visit with her aunt,
Miss Marie Land, in Macon.

doing nicely following an operation
at Georgia Baptist Hospital Monday.

ter, Becky, of Cairo are with Mr. and

Mrs. Fletcher Williams, Mrs. Bill
Price, Mrs. Otis Henderson, Mrs. C.

ta were guests of Mrs. Hulon Price
at a Valentine luncheon.
Mr. and Mrs. Julian Patterson and

nesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Clay Saunders of At
lanta are visiting their parents, Mr.

Saunders is sick with flu.

Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Stroud had
a number of their relatives to spend
the day Sunday. Douglas Jr. is at
home from the Coast Guard but will
leave in a few days to join his outfit.

noon Wednesday, Feb. 27, Easters
Standard Time. After that hour no
candidate will be allowed to qualify
and have his name entered on the of
ficial ballot. Candidates are required
to pay assessments to the secretary
of the committee, J. D. Jones Sr.
Offices to be filled are those of
ordinary, clerk of superior court, tax
collector, treasurer, sheriff, tax re
ceiver, county school superintendent,
county commissioner, three to be
elected, coroner and surveyor.
Candidates for representative and
solicitor general will run in the state
primary, tentatively set on May 14.
After the deadline for qualifying
the committee will prepare the offi
cial ballot and prepare other elec
tion papers for the primary on March
28.
Mote of Atlanta were visitors in Jen
kinsburg Sunday.
Mrs. Euca Moss, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Moss Jr., Miss Mollie Frank
lin, Mrs. Bernard Mote, Carol and
Ellen Mote were guests of Mrs.
Douglas Mote Sunday.
The Methodist Prayer and Sing
service was held Thursday night at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel
Harris with Rev. J. R. Thompson as
leader. Those present were Mr. and
Mrs. A. R. Rosser, Mrs. Mote, Mr.
and Mrs. Herschel Harris, Nancy
Harris, Rev .and Mrs. J. R. Thomp
son. Mr. A. R. Rosser will lead the
next service Thursday night.
