Jackson Trims
Milner Monday
In Tournament
hi ■ ■ ■ ■ t
r Jackson High’s court teams con
tinned their mastery over Milner
Monday night when Coach Hunter
Strickland’s Red Devils eked out a
39-38 win in the Eastern Division of
the Boys Fourth District tournament
at Jonesboro.
During the regular season play,
Jackson had lost to Milner 34-42 and
%
later spanked them 45-38 in a game
in the Devils’ home gymnasium. The
game Monday night was the rubber
game for the two teams and was the
one that each team wanted most of
all.
Coach Strickland, one of the best
tournament coaches in Georgia high
school circles, brought his team
along slowly all year but they were
at a razor-sharp edge for Monday
night’s tilt.
The game was air-tight from the
opening whistle and at the quarter
Milner led 14-10. By halftime, Jack
son had pulled away to a 23-18 lead,
which they maintained through the
third period, the score at the begin
ning of the last quarter being 32-28.
Harold Smith paced the Jackson
five with 13 points, while Johnson
Funderburk was runner-up with 10.
Other point scorers were Evans (2),
Joe Fletcher (2), McMichael (5),
Watkins (5), Rooks (2).
