Sweethearts
To Be Chosen
Beauty and baseball are win
ning combinations in anybody’s
league with the results that four
girls will be vying for the title
of Ty Cobb Sweetheart and Little
League Sweetheart in a contest
that will run from now until
June 15th and June 27th.
Four girls were selected by
secret ballot by members of the
teams in the Ty Cobb League and
the Little League to represent
their respective teams in the
sweetheart contest. The sweet
heart of each league will be elec
ted by votes received through the
collection of money in jars placed
in businesses around town. Pro
ceeds derived will go toward sup
port of the two leagues involved.
The Ty Cobb Sweetheart will
be named June 15th while the
Little League Sweetheart will be
named June 27th.

many of their friends had seen
them since their return from
Germany.

Mrs. T. H. Price visited her
nieee and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Granville Shubert, in Gainesville,
last Thursday. Going up with her

Mrs. Winnie Johnson, all of At
lanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Burford
and family attended the family
reunion of the Cook families and
relatives at the Iron Springs
Clubhouse last Sunday.
Miss Shirley Price of Atlanta
was Sunday guest of her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Price.
She had just returned from a
vacation in Spain.

Died Sunday
Friends in Jackson were sad
dened to learn of the death Sun
day of Mrs. Ed Martin, mother
of Mrs. William Mack Davis of
Jackson.
Mrs. Martin died in a Hunts
ville. Alabama hospital with Mr.
and Mrs. Davis and son, Martin,
leaving Sunday afternoon for
Tennessee. Funeral services were
held Tuesday in Lynchburg, Ten
nessee.

Springs, Butts County’s “ice
box.”
Jimmy Cornell reported that
his thermometer registered a
chilly 42, while his neighbor
across the street, Spencer John
son, reported a 41, only nine de
grees from freezing and on June
Ist.
A cold front moved across the
state Wednesday night and
Thursday morning with chill
winds causing many Butts coun
tians to turn on their furnaces
and seek light wraps, at least
until mid-morning.

home last week after spending
several days in Orlando, Florida
with her children, Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Sark, Amy and Greg.
Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Ross and
children moved around the first

Caskill Drive, friends will be in
terested to learn.
Friends of Alan (Skip) Butler
of Jacksonville, Fla. will be in
terested to learn he received his
discharge from the U. S. Navy
last Friday. He visited during the
weekend with his grandmother,
Mrs. Ira Butler.

tain and three children are new
comers to Jackson from Macon,
having moved into the M. C.
Johnson home on Walker Street
and are being welcomed by Jack
sonians. Mr. Fountain will be em
ployed with Georgia-Pacific in
Monticello.
Mrs. Ira Butler spent Thurs
day night in Griffin with Mr.
and Mrs. Billy Butler and family
and attended graduation exer
cises for the seniors at Griffin
High School. Mrs. Butler’s grand
daughter, Sherrie, was among
those graduating.
Mrs. Robert C. Edwards attend
ed graduation exercises at Jones
boro Senior High School Friday
night at which her grandson,
Richard Raymond Edwards, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Dyer Edwards,
received his diploma. Mr. Ed
wards, an honor graduate, was
also awarded a scholarship to
Clayton Junior College.
Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Weaver
and Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Maddox
attended a piano recital in which
their grandson, Lamar Maddox,
was a participant Friday evening
in Macon.

A familiar face is absent “on
the square” this week caused by
the retirement of Mrs. Wade
Hammond, who has been affili
ated with Dixie Discount for the
past eight years. Mrs. Hammond
will be missed but she is wished
much happiness and pleasure as
she carries on her duties at home.
Saturday was her last work day
at the local store.
Mrs. Tom O’Dell was admitted
Sunday to Coliseum Park Hos
pital, Macon, where she under
went surgery Monday morning,
her many friends will be inter
ested to know.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raney and
Mrs. Jane Dodson attended grad
uation exercises Sunday at
West Georgia College, Carroll
ton, at which Tommy Raney re
ceived his BBA degree.
Mr. and Mrs. David Deraney
are spending several days the
first of the week at Panama City,
Florida.
Mrs. Elon Holloway of Hamp
ton visited Mrs. Asa O’Neal and
other relatives during the week
end. While here she also visited
her mother, Mrs. Arvilla Lewis,
a patient at Sylvan Grove Hos
pital.
Friends of Mrs. Pierce Power
will regret to know she is a pa
tient at Griffin-Spalding Coun
ty Hospital and is undergoing
tests and observation.

TO PRESENT MUSICAL
Sunday night, June 11th, at
7:30 o’clock the Youth Choir of
the First Baptist Church of Jack
son will present the folk musical,
“Show Me,” at the school audito
rium. The musical is directed by
Steve Jett, minister of music and
youth.
It is a dramatic new love and
concern musical about Jesus. The
