BAE Held
First Meet
Of Year
The Butts County Associa
tion of Educators (BAE) held
their first meeting of the year
last Wednesday at the
Jackson High School lunch
room.
Loy Hutcheson, President
of BAE, began the meeting
by introducing the guests and
recognizing the principals of
each school who introduced
new teachers. After a “get
aquainted” game Mr. Hutch
eson officially welcomed the
groups of some 150 educa
tors. He said “we are at a
point where we as an
organization have to do
something - we have to get
involved. Teacher Welfare is
one of my top priorities as
BAE president. We are a
profession and have to
operate as a professional
association.”
The Business meeting
included a financial and
budget report which was
accepted by the group. It was
pointed out that a committee
was looking into several
insurance programs and
would report their findings
and recommend the best
program.
Glen Newsome, Field
Representative from GAE
(Georgia Association of
Educators) was the guest
speaker. Mr. Newsome talk
ed about the history of
Georgia teachers fighting for
cost of living raises and
explained what G.A.E. was
doing for the teachers of
Georgia. He stated that again
Educators is not the top
priority among legislators.
