The Wednesday, June 2
games showed Pike County
defeating VFW Post 5374
12-3, Clint Davis, winning
pitcher, Rod Smith, the loser.
The Butts County Lions Club
defeated the Barnesville
Braves 14-13, with A1 Duke
the winner.
On June 5, the Jackson
Exchange Club defeated
Pike County 9-3, with Scott
Smith, the winner and Lee
Quick the loser; the Barnes
ville Trojans and Barnesville

Center Offers
Short Course
BARNESVILLE Gordon
Junior College will offer
Introduction to Criminal
Justice, a five-hour college
credit course, at the Georgia
Diagnostic and Classification
Center in Jackson this
summer.
The course has been
tentatively planned to meet
for three days per week at 12
noon. Gordon’s summer
quarter began with registra
tion on June 21 and classes on
June 22. Gene Waters, a
criminal justice and socio
logy instructor at Gordon,
will teach the course.
Designed as an overview of
all aspects of law enforce
ment, courts, and correc
tional processes, the course
allows criminal justice per
sonnel who work night hours
to supplement their acade
mic background. Laymen,
recent high school graduates,
and other college students
are also encouraged to enroll
for their own educational
enrichment.
Qualified personnel in
crminal justice programs
may seek financial aid for
college costs by applying to
Law Inforcement Assistance
Administration.
Gene Waters, a resident of
Jackson, was employed as a
counselor at the Diagnostic
Center before joining Gordon
as an instructor. He received
the 8.8.A. and B.S. degree
from Armstrong State
College and the M.A. and
Ed.S. degrees from the
University of Georgia. He is
a member of the American
Personnel and Guidance
Association, the General
Personnel and Guidance
Association, the American
Association of Correctional
Psychologists, and the
American Society of Crimi
nology.

James Anthony Har
graves, 71, of Swainsboro,
died Thursday, June 17, in a
Swainsboro nursing home.
He was the father of Mrs.
Betty H. Parrish, of Jackson.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at Southside Bap
tist Church and interment
followed in the Forest Lawn
Cemetery at Dellwood, Geor
gia.
Mr. Hargraves, a native of
Ware County, was a deacon
at Southside Baptist Church,
a past member of the
Kiwanis Club, and a member
of the American Turpentine
and Farmers Association.
Survivors besides Mrs.
Parrish include his wife,
Mrs. Eunice Youmans Har
graves; four sons, James
Ralph Hargraves, Swains
boro; Dr. Fred L. Hargraves
and Jerry A. Hargraves,

Set June 26
Frank Bailey, candidate
for U.S. Congress from the
Sixth District, is having an
open house at his campaign
headquarters in Forest Park
on Saturday, June 26, from 2
to 4 p.m.
Bailey, 40, a second term
member of the Georgia
House of Representatives, is
expected to make a major
address at the meeting.
There will be an old-fash
ioned watermelon cutting,
other refreshments and en
tertainment at the Saturday
fete, to be held in Bailey’s
headquarters on the north
bound side of 1-75, just off the
Frontage Road north of the
Farmers Market exit.
