The Salvation
Army Opens
Local Unit
The Salvation Army has
opened a Service Unit in
Butts County with C. Lamar
Long as chairman.
Unlike The Salvation Army
Griffin-Spalding County
Corps (Church) Community
Center, the local Butts
County Service Unit will not
be commanded by an
ordained Salvation Army
officer K Under the supervi
sion of state headquarters in
Atlanta, the Service Unit will
be operated by a committee
of local citizens concerned
with the needs of the less
fortunate and people who
encounter unforeseen crises
in the Butts County area.
Working closely with the
Department of- Family and
Children’s Services, church
es and other civic groups, the
local Service Unit will
altempt to fill all gaps in
serving the needy, while
attempting to prevent dupli
cation of services.
The Butts County Service
Unit will pr'ovide assistance
to those victims of natural
disasters and will offer
medicine, prescriptions, food
and other services on a local
basis to those in need.
The Chairman requests
that donations to The
Salvation Army, which
formerly had gone to Griffin,
be made to the local Service
Unit, which now will stand as
an independent arm of The
Salvation Army.
Those desiring further
information on the creation
of the local Service Unit may
contact Mr. Long at 237 E.
Third Street, Jackson, or Mr.
R. Keith Jones, The Salva
tion Army, P. O. Box 8237,
