Legislative Report
from
Bill Jones
Rep. of District 78
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
The supplemental budget
for the remainder of the 1977
fiscal year was approved this
week with House and Senate
conferees agreeing on the
appropriations for the
balance of this fiscal year.
One major item of contention
finally agreed upon by the
House and Senate members
was over the method of
financing 30 million dollars
worth of road repairs for the
entire state.
The House of Representa
tives’ position of using 30
million dollars of surplus
funds in the FY 77 budget for
the repairs was finally
agreed to by the Senate.
Gov. Busbee adamantly
says that he will veto this line
item in the appropriations
bill inasmuch as his position
was to finance the road
improvement program
through the issuance of
general revenue bonds to be
paid over a twenty year
period. Assuming that Gov.
Busbee does veto this line
item, the funds will be
carried forward to the ‘7B
fiscal year budget currently
under consideration by the
House Appropriations Com
mittee.
Regardless of the method
of financing it is imperative
that agreement of financing
be reached soon in order that
much needed road re
surfacing and repair work
caused by the unusually
harsh weather conditions this
winter can begin.

either some type of restau
rant or an institutional food
service/cafeteria operation.
By the mid-1980's, it is
estimated that one out
of every two food dollars
will be used to purchase
meals away from home.
Foodservice is one of the na

“FLU” is known as a virus
disorder that strikes large
portions of our population
every year, nearly always
bringing fever and misery
that can take even the
heartiest body to his bed!
It is also known that some
persons will not fall prey to
flu, while other members of
the same household may be
seriously ill.
Natural resistance and
immunity are known to be
the key to staving off the
effects of flu in each
individual. Chiropractic
patients can testify to the
effectiveness of Chiropractic
treatment in minimizing the
effects of colds and flu,
availing themselves for
treatment, especially in the
early stages of disorder.

PET of the WEEK
By Dale Whiten
Like a fuzzy ball of cotton,
Cricket bounds from behind
the couch to see if his owner
and favorite person, Mrs.
Vivian Hodges of Jackson, is
really holding “a pretty little
baby.”
She’s only fooling and the
three-year-old poodle is in
tensely happy about that as
he bounces all over the room
with an enormous amount of
energy befitting his bubbly
temperament.
Mrs. Hodges says Cricket
is jealous, especially of her
grandchildren and he seems
to be really happy and
relieved when their visits
have ended because they
always seem to get too much
of the attention that is
usually reserved for him.
And Cricket demands, and
gets, a lot of attention.
He won’t eat dogfood,
preferring instead to eat
steak or chicken with ice
cream for dessert. And the
steak and chicken have to be
heated.
He won’t drink water
directly out of a faucet-it
must be out of the refrigera
tor and Mrs. Hodges says if
there’s even a speck of dust
in the water, he won’t drink

Cricket delights Mrs.
• Hodges and her husband,
Haywood, with his many
demands and also his
pretenses at talking.
To a visitor, Cricket might
say, “Hello.”
And Mrs. Hodges main
tains Cricket can say
complete sentences, such as
“I want my Mama” or “I
want to go home.”
Cricket can also “sing” as
well as make a pitiable noise
that sounds a lot like crying.
Inc.
Though Cricket spends
most of the time with Mrs.
Hodges, he is equally fond of
Mr. Hodges and is always
waiting by the door when he
comes home in the evenings.
Then Cricket accompanies
Mr. Hodges on errands like
going to the grocery store or
going with him to feed their
pigs at which Cricket always
enjoys barking fiercely.
