Saw Slides
On Caladiums
The February meeting of
the Mimosa Garden Club was
held at The Central Georgia
EMC building with Mrs.
Howard Jolly, Miss Amelia
Fletcher and Mrs. A. V.
Maddox as hostesses.
Eighteen members were
present.
Delicious refreshments, in
keeping with the Valentine
motif, were served by the
hostesses.
Miss Elizabeth Finley,
program chairman, present
ed Millard Daniel, Butts
County Extension agent, who
presented an interesting and
informative program on
Caladiums in the form of
slides. Everyone enjoyed the
program very much.
Each member is asked to
bring an arrangement of
bulbs or flaming shrubs to
the March meeting.
Gourds Shown
Cherokee Club

The Cherokee Garden Club
met at the home of Mrs.
Frances Barnes for their
February meeting. Hostes
ses for the meeting were
Miss Lois Colwell, Mrs.
Elena Carter and Mrs.
Barnes.
Mrs. Carter introduced
Mrs. Susan Parham as guest
speaker. Mrs. Parham gave
an interesting talk and
demonstration on decorative
gourds. She showed the club
members many different
types of gourds that she and
her husband, Rev. J. C.
Parham, grow. Some of the
gourds were of their natural
color and many were in
different colors. She also
arranged the gourds most
attractively in different
shape baskets and wooden
containers.
After a brief business
meeting, presided over by
Mrs. Pearl Remington, vice
president, the hostesses
served delicious pie and
coffee.

recently with Mr. and Mrs.
Bobby Greer in Alabaster,
Alabama.

Frankie was selected for
outstanding performance

Search for Leadership in
Family Living. Continuing in
the spirit of the American
family and recognition of its
importance to the nation, the
award was proudly present
ed by General Mills to this
young lady.
The daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Maddox of
Jackson, Frankie is a
member of Co-Ed-Y, Tri
Sigma Chi, Honor Society,
Student Council, Senior Class
Play, Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, Math Club, B-Team
Cheering Squad, and she is a
bat girl for the Jackson High
baseball team.

HAWTHORNE CLUB
MET AT HOME OF
MRS. ASA ONEAL
The Hawthorne Garden
Club met at the home of Mrs.
Asa O’Neal for their Febru
ary meeting. Sixteen mem
bers were present.
The devotional was given
by Mrs. S. G. Jordan. A poem
was read on Valentine,
followed by prayer. Reports
were given by the secretary
and treasurer with Mrs. M.
W. Juhlin, president, presid
ing over business.
Mrs. Frank Hardy had
charge of the interesting
program on Valentine and its
legend long ago.
New officers elected and
installed included Mrs. W. N.
Harris, president; Mrs. S. G.
Jordan, vice president; Mrs.
Howard Greer, recording
secretary; Mrs. A. H.
Coleman, treasurer; and
Mrs. J. B. Jones, correspond
ing secretary.
The hostess served de
licious cakes, nuts, chips and
hot chocolate.
The March meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs.
Artis Wilson.
Hero Club
Has Active
February
The second week of
February was an exciting
week for the Hero Club. All
the Hero members per
formed certain activities
during the week, on Sunday,
February 6, all of the
members attended church
and wore red and white.
Monday the Hero Club
reporter put together some
articles about the weeks
activities and had them
broadcast over the radio and
put in the newspaper.
Tuesday the Hero members
made cookies and provided
nutritional things for theim
selves and fellow members

the week. Wednesday during
first period three of the Hero
members provided all mem
bers of the Jackson High
School faculty that were
present with a nutritional
snack. During second period
all of the members attended
the kindergarten and provid
ed the children with hot
chocolate and a cookie for a
snack. Thursday was family
day for Hero members. The
members had to do some
thing special for their family.
They cooked dinner, washed
dishes, cleaned house and
some even tended to the
younger children. On Friday
all of the Hero members had
a dinner at the school. The
dinner consisted of hot dogs,
baked beans, kool-aid with

Y. is expected to arrive
March Ist for a visit with
Misses Georgie and Delia
Watkins. Mrs. Fox has been
in Florida for the month of
February and will be enroute
home.

active group. They are

TIFT TO HOLD
BIZARRE BAZAAR
A “Bizarre Bazaar” will be
held at Tift College Saturday,
Feb. 26, in the gymnasium.
The bazaar, which will last
from 10 a m. until 4 p.m., is
being held to raise money to
help Miss Tift, Miss Sue
Ellen Hughes, in her prepa
rations for the Miss Georgia
Pageant.
Miscellaneous items will
be on sale in the gymnasium,
ranging from toys, books,
records, etc. to baked goods
such as cookies and cakes.
The public is invited to
attend.
