Mr. and Mrs. Ben Branan
of Route 2, Jackson, have
five Siamese kittens which
are just a little over a month
old and which in that length
of time have become five
favorite objects of fun and
mischief for the Branans.
Mrs. Branan said the
kittens like to play all over
the house and sometimes like
to find a sleeping place in the
hall almost tripping up
anyone who unsuspectingly
approaches.
She also complained that
even though she adores the
kittens they continually get
Age Requirements Changed For
Kindergarten-First Graders
Two recently-passed Geor
gia laws change the dates for
determining when children
should enter public school
kindergartens and first
grade.
A 1974 law says that all
children entering a public
school first grade in 1978
must be six years old on or
before Sept. 1 of that year.
Language in the 1977 Ap
propriations Act says that
child enrolling in state
operated kindergartens
next fall must be five years
old on or before Sept. 1,1977.
“These provisions have
far-reaching implications for
parents of preschoolers and
for local school officials,”
according to Dr. H. Titus
Singletary Jr., associate
superintendent of schools for
instructional services, Geor
gia Department of Educa
tion.
“They mean that Georgia
parents of preschool age
children should be thinking
almost two years ahead as
they make educational plans
for their youngsters. Parents
should understand that the
entrance age for preschool
this fall should coincide with
the change to be made in
1978. If a child is permitted to

Georgia school systems

Parents of three -and

their local school officials as

Former lowa

The Georgia Department
of Industry and Trade is
looking for a few “new”
Georgians.
The only stipulation is that
they must have moved to

being interviewed by an lowa
newspaper.
Ihdustry and Trade often
manages to find seemingly
impossible answers to a
myriad of questions from
throughout the world. This
time, the Sunday Feature
Writer for an lowa news
paper will be traveling in
Georgia during the summer
and is interested in talking
with former lowans now
living here.
