Vows Spoken By
Ann T. Lynn,
R. T. Compton
Fairfield Presbyterian
Church was the setting at
7:30 o'clock in the evening of
Friday, March 25th, for the
wedding of Ms. Ann Tucker
Lynn and Richard Calvert
Compton. Parents of the
couple are Mrs. C. A. Bentley
of Dorp, Alabama and the
late Mr. W. E. Tucker and
Mr. and Mrs. Richard M.
Compton of Springville,
Alabama.
Mr. Compton was his son’s
best man.
The bride was attended by
her sister, Miss Kay Tucker
of Fairfield, Alabama. The
bride wore a light pink crepe
dress while her sister was
attired in blue crepe. Their
flowers were nosegays of
spring blossoms and carna
tions.
The double ring ceremony
was performed by Dr.
Alexander Henry in the
presence of relatives and
close friends.
Mrs. Bentley wore a light
blue suit for her daughter’s
wedding. Mrs. Compton’s
dress was a beaded teal blue
crepe. Their flowers were
corsages of white carnations.
Mrs. C. M. Compton,
grandmother of the groom,
wore a light blue dress with
matching coat and her
corsage was also of white
carnations.
A reception followed in the
Fellowship Parlor of the
church.
The couple will be at home
at their apartment at 1014-A,
40th Street, Birmingham,
Alabama 35218.
Mr. Compton is the
grandson of Mrs. C. M.
Compton of Jackson.

GOVERNOR’S MANSION
A group of Jackson
matrons served as hostesses
at the Governor’s Mansion in
Atlanta on Wednesday,
March 30th.
Among those making the
trip to Atlanta were Mrs.
Fred Collins, Mrs. Tom
Webb, Mrs. Jimmy White,
Mrs. Jerry McLauren, Mrs.
Herbert Shapard, Mrs. Roy
Goff, Mrs. Charles Carter,
Mrs. Charlie Sibley, Mrs.
Jim Brewer, all of Jackson;
and Mrs. Collier Jackson of
Griffin.

the former Katrina Compton,

granddaughter of Mrs. C. M.
Compton of Jackson.

Silver Anniversary Celebrated
March 31 By Jackson BPW Club
The Jackson Business and
Professional Women’s Club
celebrated their twenty-fifth
anniversary Thursday eve
ning, March 31st, with a
banquet at the Jackson
Clubhouse.
Chartered March 31st,
1952, many of the charter
members were present for
this auspicious occasion and
the original officers for
1952-53, all seated at the head
table, included Helen Spen
cer, president; Jane Powell,
first vice president; Martha
G. Jones, treasurer; and
Mary Sasser, secretary.
Other charter members
present included Ruth Bur
ford, Ethel Ham, Mary Lee
Martin, Winnie Moore,
Gladys Wilson, and Gertrude
Wright.
Miss Frances Oliver, of
Macon, State president at the
time of the local club’s
organization, presented the
charter to the Jackson Club
and was a special guest at
last Thursday’s meeting. The
Jackson Club was organized
by the Griffin B&PW Club.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB
PRESENTED PROGRAM
ON TERRARIUMS
Thirty-one members at
tended the March 21st
meeting of the Friendship
Club.
Miss Patricia Smith, home
economist with the local
Extension Service, presented
a program giving home
economist tips on prepara
tion of beautiful terrariums.
Films were shown on the
design for casual living and
also tips on ways to be a
creative consumer.
The devotional was
brought by Mrs. Bailey
(Martha) Jones.
Members serving a most
delightful dessert and re
freshments were Elaine
Elliott, Elon Cowan and
Sarah O’Neal.

Mrs. Jane Moyes visited
during the weekend with her
daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Van Bergen,
in Atlanta.
Mrs. Winnie Moore had as

recognized the charter mem
bers and special guests
including Julia Griffin of
Fairburn and Hester Hand
ley of Griffin, both past state
presidents, as well as out of
town guests from B&PW
Clubs in Griffin, Fayette
ville, McDonough, Thomas
ton, Hawkinsville, and Lo
cust Grove. Eighty-five or
more were in attendance.
A beautifully decorated
birthday cake, embossed
in gold and white and made
by Mrs. Pat Hall, a member
of the club, was served with
ice cream for dessert
following the delicious meal.
Tables, covered with beau
tiful yellow cloths, were
attractively decorated with
green streamers, green nap
kin rings made by several
members, and beautiful
arrangements of flowers.
The green and gold carried
out the club colors.
Attention was called to the
framed list of charter
members, done by Gail S.
Parnelle, local artist.
The large audience was
royally entertained by The
Horace Ward Golden Banjo
group from Atlanta and this
was enjoyed very much.

Mrs. G. N. Etheredge
returned home Monday from
Charlotte, N.C., where she
had been visiting for a week
with her son, Dr. Newton
Etheredge, and children,
Samantha and Jenny, while
his wife was in Ft. Dix, New
Jersey with her mother and
father. Capt. Victor Grubbs,
a Pan American airline pilot,
one of the survivors in the
airline crash in the Canary
Islands on Sunday, March
27th. Friends will be inte
rested to know that Capt.
Grubbs’ outlook is good,
however he will be hospital
ized at the Army hospital
there for several weeks and a
lengthy period of recovery at
his home. Mrs. Grubbs and
Mrs. Etheredge have been
furnished a room for the
family at a nearby hotel and
they were joined on Monday
by Dr. Newdon Etheredge.
The Etheredge children are
with their grandparents in
Jackson.
Miss Sue Lockhart recently
accompanied her sisters,
Mrs. Ailine Brimer and Mrs.
Evelyn Thurston of Atlanta,
to tour the beautiful Calla
way Gardens.

BUTTS COUNTY CB
CLUB HOLDS MEETING
The Butts County CB Club
of Jackson held its regular
monthly business meeting
Saturday, April 2, at the
Jackson Club House.
The meeting was opened
by the president, Joe Harris,
and after the pledge of
allegiance, the minutes of the
last meetng were read and
approved.
Our guest speaker for the
evening was Butts County’s
Sheriff Billy Leverette. He
talked on the importance of
protecting one’s property:
the how and why if the
occasion should arise. Every
one enjoyed and benefited by
his talk.
A special “Thanks” was
given to John W. Pritchett in
recognition for making all
that good stew for the
Eberhart Benefit.
The CB Club had been
asked if it would like to take
part in this year’s Butts
County Week Celebration in
July. A motion was made and
seconded that we participate
in the activities.
A donation of $30.00 was
taken up at the meeting and
is to be given to the Cystic
Fibrosis Fund.
Two new members, Jimmy
and Rose Earnhart, joined
the Club.
It was voted that we
change the time for our
meetings from 7:00 p.m. to
8:00 p.m.

student at Sewanee Aca
demy, Sewanee, Tennessee,
returned home Sunday night
from Houma, La., where he
visited the past week with
Scott Shaw, a schoolmate at
Sewanee. He left Monday for
Sewanee to resume his
studies following Spring
holidays.
Mrs. Jessie Mackey re
turned home recently from
Orlando, Florida where she
spent more than four months
with her daughter, Mrs.
Patricia W. Sark, and family.

Mrs. L. M. Spencer and
Mrs. Edith Echols visited
relatives in Athens recently.
Mrs. Doyle Jones, Jr. went
over to Athens Wednesday
morning of last week to
attend graveside services for
her aunt. Miss Kate Ander
son. Miss Anderson, who had
been a patient in Athens
General Hospital for several
weeks, passed away on
Monday, March 28th. Mrs.
Jones had lunch with her
mother, Mrs. L. F. Griffeth,
and family before returning
to Jackson that afternoon.
Miss Sue Lockhart attend
ed the funeral of an aunt.
