Cars Involved in Minor Mishaps
May Move To Clear Highway
Minor traffic accidents on
Georgia’s expressways and
multi-lane highways should
cause less delay to motorists
in the future. Legislative Act
Number 314, passed by the
last Session of the General
Assembly, requires drivers
of vehicles involved. in
accidents where no personal
injury, death or extensive
property damage occur, to
move, or have someone
move, the vehicle from the
traffic lane to a safe refuge in
the emergency lane, median
or shoulder of the roadway if
the vehicle can be moved
safely under its own power.
Vehicles that are disabled in
an aaccident cannot be
moved until the investigating
officer has made the neces
sary measurements and
diagrams for the initial
investigation.
The Act further empowers
employees of the Depart
ment of Transportation to
require, and assist in,
removal of disabled vehicles
or debris from the travel lane
of the roadway, if it can be
done safely.

and Safety Engineer A. C.

Burnham, Jr., this will
minimize delay and hazards
to the traveling public from
minor accidents. He said,
“This Act gives state-wide
application to a law .that has
been in effect on . Metro

time, on a trial basis.”
According to Burnham, it has
been very beneficial t<s the
traffic flow on Atlanta roads.

THURSDAY, JUNE 9, 1977
School is out; vacations are
in the planning stages; and
Jackson Lake is again filling
up with fishermen, swim
mers, and skiers. What a lazy
time of year is the summer
time—a time for all of us to
enjoy a little more relaxation
and slowing down.
I get tired of the rush-rush
world we live in—l believe all
of us need to find more time
just to take it easy and forget
the pressures we daily face.
Americans in particular
don’t seem to know how to
relax anymore; they’re too
busy seeking their everlast
ing goldmines. Perhaps we
all need to be reminded of the
importance of good health
and the ways to go about
having same.
People in the “olden days”
very seldom worked on
Sundays. What do we do? We
waterski; we travel for hours
on end; we must always be
doing something. I daresay
that if all of us were made to
spend an entire Sunday
afternoon napping peacefully

My children are of the new

“when I was a little girl”, yet
I WAS young once and I

their parents, did.
I guess what I’m getting at

simply that in certain areas,
