Van Deventer Little League
Teams Finish 1977 Season
The Van Deventer Little
League teams completed
their season June 28 with the
first place Polk Tire team
defeating second place City
Pharmacy 12-2 and Avondale
Mills losing to fourth place
American Mills.
The games were played at
Avondale Park and the
City-County Park. A picnic
followed after which trophies
were awarded and the
all-star players announced.
In addition, the team
mothers presented individual
trophies to all the players.
Here is a listing of the
players named to the all-star
team:

TO HOLD PI BLIC MEET

The Town of Jenkinsburg
will hold a public meeting for
residents of the town on
Friday night. July Bth, at 7:30
P.M. at the Club House.
Purpose of the meeting is to
discuss the need for an
additional well for the water
system of Jenkinsburg.
Residents of Jenkinsburg
are urged to be present for
this important meeting at
which the Mayor and Council
will be present to answer any
questions regarding the
matter.

Team Beats
Covington Here
Scott Moore and Andy
W’aldrop pitched Jackson
American Legion Post 102
baseball team to a 5-3 win
over Covington Post 32 in
Jackson Wednesday night,
June 29. Scott pitched eight
and one-half innings and was
relieved by Andy.
Ray Thomas, with three
hits, and Charlie Robison,
with two, paced Jackson’s
hitters.
One Covington member
was thrown out of the game
for protesting too volubly a
close decision at home plate
when Eddie Roberts slipped
past the catcher with one of
the “go ahead" runs.

Thursday Rites
Held Here For
Jeff English
Jeffery Lamar English, 22,
of Route 5, Towaliga Com
munity of Butts County, was
accidentally drowned early
Wednesday, June 29, in
Jackson Lake.
Born in Fulton County, Mr.
English spent most of his life
in Butts County and was
graduated from Jackson
High School in the class of
1972. He was a member of
Towaliga Baptist Church and
was employed by the Hood
Service Station.
Funeral services were
conducted Thursday after
noon, June 30, at three
o’clock from the chapel of
Haisten Funeral Home with
the Rev. Lannie Smith and
the Rev. J. C. Parham
officiating. Interment was in
Jackson City Cemetery.
Survivors include a daugh
ter, little Miss Pamela Dawn
English of Thomaston; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lamar
T. English, Jackson; three
sisters, Mrs. Jennifer Hobbs,
Miss Pamela English and
Miss Janet English, all of
Jackson.
Pallbearers were George
Washington, Dickie Britton,
Bub Ridgway, Billy Ridg
way, Charles Harper, and
Marion Britton.
Haisten Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anne Cochran spent
last week in Atlanta with Mr.
and Mrs. Olen Mills and
attended the Institute in
Basis Youth Conflicts at the
Omni.

with Mrs. Wilma Brown in
Macon last Friday.
Monday guests of Mr. and
Mrs. James W. Pulliam and
family were Mr. and Mrs.
John H. Bray, Amy and Jodi
of Macon. The grandchildren
remained for a week’s visit
while their parents vacation
in Florida.
Mrs. Thelma Smithwick
and Mrs. Carolyn Moore
attended the funeral of a
cousin, Mrs. Mozelle Sutton
Minter, in Macon last
Saturday.
Miss Peggy Evans left
Friday for Maine and other
points of interest for a
vacation. She will be with
other friends from Atlanta.
They plan to stop for a brief
visit with Mr. and Mrs. J. M.
Evans in Glenn Dale,
Maryland.
