Dove Hunters
Find Wardens
Among Birds
Game and Fish Division
Law Enforcement Officers in
the 13-County Manchester
District made charges
against 61 game law viola
tors on opening weekend of
the dove hunting season. A
total of 161 birds were
confiscated for infractions of
the game laws.
The counties of the district
are: Carroll, Heard, Troup,
Meriwether, Cowera, Fa
yette, Upson, Henry, New
ton, Spalding, Pike, Butts
and Lamar.
Law enforcement officials
of the Game and Fish
Division, Department of
Natural Resources, reported
that in the 13-county district,
hunters were checked on 45
fields.
Of the 61 law violation
cases made against hunters,
56 were for hunting on baited
fields, two were for hunting
without a valid license, one
charge was for taking more
than the legal limit of 12
doves per day or having
more than 24 in possession,
one person was charged with
using an unplugged gun, and
one person was charged with
taking quail during the
closed season.
Gerald Kersey, Butts
County Conservation Rang
er, pointed out that the
intensive law enforcement
will continue throughout the
open season on doves. He
cautioned all hunters not to
hunt over baited fields, not to
exceed the bag limit and
possession limit, and to give
special attention to other
provisions of the game laws.
He also emphasized the
importance of being con
stantly safety conscious
when handling guns.
Reports from most areas of
the Manchester District
indicated a generally good
dove population with many
hunters successful in taking
the limit on opening day. The
first part of the split dove
season in the Manchester
District ends October 8.
