Gordon Jr. College To Offer
Wide Variety of Instruction
Gordon Junior College is
offering the largest number
of community services
courses in its history Fall
Quarter.
Courses to be offered on the
Barnesville campus include:
National Field Archery
Association Certified
Bowhunters Course
This course was designed
by the NFAA and is
sponsored also by the
National Bowhunting Educa
tion Foundation. The class
meets September 17 and 18,
at 10:00 a.m. at Gordon
Junior College, with John
Briley as instructor. The cost
is $35.00.
Biorhythm
Biorhythm, a systematic
method of determining the
peak and critical periods of
an individual’s physical,
emotional, and intellectual
level of behavior, will be
taught September 27 and 29
by Ms. Diane Gordon. The
class will meet from 7-8:30 in
Room 254 of Russell Hall, and
the cost is $lO per person.
Christmas Decorations
Gordon will offer four
course sections in this class
this fall. Applicants should
register with the Admissions
Office in Lambdin Hall for
Home Management II on
September 19. The course
offers information about the
history of Christmas symbols
and customs and the use of
equipment, supplies, and
materials. The cost is $9.00
per person, plus materials.
Two sections will be taught
by Mrs. Carolyn Whitehurst
with scheduled meetings at
“The Playhouse” in William
son. The first section will be
held on September 21, 26, 28,
and Oct. 3 from 7-9:30 p.m.
The second sections meet
Oct. 5, 10, 12, and 17 from
7-9:30 p.m. Mrs. Nelle
Adamson and Mrs. Sue
Bankston will teach a similar
course on Oct. 18, 20, 25, and
27 from 9:30-12 noon and
7-9:30 p.m.
Christmas Decorations
For Children
Children will learn design
principles and techniques for
one arrangement within a
group learning activity. Also,
each student will make one
straw wreath according to
his or her preference.
Materials will be provided by
the instructors, Mrs. Nell
Adamson and Mrs. Sue
Bankston. This class will
meet on December 3 (ages
6-9 years) and December 10
(ages 10 & up) from 10-12:00
in Room 204 of Smith Hall at
Gordon. The cost is $lO per
participant.
Emergency First Aid
This course will provide
the student with an overview
of the field of First Aid. Mrs.
Marie LoMonaco will give
instruction on treatment for
wounds, specific injuries,
shock, respiratory emergen
cies, drowning, poisoning,
drug abuse, burns, bone
injuries and dressings,
emergency childbirth, and
rescue and transfer. The
class will meet on Wednes
days, October 26 to Novem
ber 23 from 7-9 p.m. in the
Nursing Lab at Gordon. The
cost is sls per person.
Gourmet Cooking
Instruction will be given by
Mrs. Carolyn Tift on (1)
quiches and salad dressings,
(2) breads and soups, (3)
crepes, (4) omelets and
souffles, (5) poor man’s Beef
Wellington, and (6) hors
d'oeuvres, garnishes, baked
Alaska. This class will meet
at the Lamar Electric
Membership Corporation on
Tuesdays September 13-Oc
tober 18 from 7-9 p.m. The
cost is $25.00.
Interior Decoration I
The basics of interior
decoration will be taught by
Terry Holland on Mondays
Sept. 26 - Oct. 13 from 7-9
p.m. in Room 204 of Smith
Hall. The course which cost
$25 will include space and
equipment for home activi
ties; fundamentals of design
and color; furniture selection
and arrangement, lighting,
and furnishing touches.
Interior Decorating II
This course will enable the
student who has completed
the basic course to develop a
total plan for his or her home
interior. Topics will include
current trends in color,
furniture styles, and a field
trip. Terry Holland will teach
this course on Thursdays,
Sept 8 - Oct. 13 from 7-9 p.m.
in Room 204 of Smith Hall.
The cost is S3O.
Positive Parenting
This is an education course
designed to help parents deal
more effectively with young
sters and their development.
For maximum benefits, it is
recommended that both
parents attend. A basic
reference handbook will be
provided in the class which
meets Oct. 31 - Nov. 21 from
8-9:30 p.m. at Gordon. The
cost is $12.50 per person.
Basic Real Estate
(introduction to principles
and practices of real estate)
This 45-hour course ad
dresses the fundamentals of
real estate. Topics include
real estate standards, con
tracts, instruments, and
conveyances, laws of agency,
financing, and mortgage.
This course meets the
Georgia requirement for a
pre-licensing course. The
cost is S6O plus textbooks.
Richard Evans, data proces
sing manager for the City of
Griffin and broker for Target
Realty, will teach the course
on Tuesdays and Thursdays,
Sept. 13-Nov. 1 at Gordon
Junior College.
Sewing for Beginners
Mrs. Susan Lindsey will
teach a course for the novice
seamstress. Each student
should be 18 years of age or
older and must bring her own
sewing machine. The stu
dents will be guided in the
making of a simple garment.
The class will meet Oct. 4 -
Nov. 8 on Tuesdays from 7-9

This short course is
designed to aid students in
taking standardized and
non-standardized tests. To
pics to be covered are
pre-test preparation, diffe

more. The class, which is
scheduled just prior to the
Scholastic Aptitude Test will
meet on Oct. 25, 27, and Nov.
1 from 7-9 p.m. in Russell
Hall. David Craddock will
teach the course which costs
$lO.
Beginning and Intermediate
Watercolor
This course is designed to
acquaint the student with
drawing composition, mixing
colors, still lifes, and working
from a model. Some histori
cal aspects will be covered.
Students will need to bring a
water color kit. Chris
Shockley will teach this
course on Tuesdays from
7:30-9:00 p.m. Sept. 27 - Nov.
1 in Woodward Hall, Room
107. The cost is sls per
person.
