You let a sorry negro, or for that m atter a white man, without money or influence commit a crime, it. In rare instances as in the caise of Morse they sftlnetime get into the toils and after they are committed to prison, some thin .■skinner Governor will pardon them he fore they have served a third of their time. hook at the Cooper case. Old man, Cooper was tried by a jury of his peers, sentenced by the lower court, the ease was appended to the •highest tribunal in the State, and the superior court judge confirmed the decision of the lower court. 11c had the lest of talent to defend him, and in the. face of all the facts and (lie decision of the supreme court judge, Governor l’atterson is sued a pardon before he is even petitioned to do so. What is the matter with our country? It seems we have plenty of law, hut the law is not enforced. Judge Speer states, that there has .been between four and five hundred receipts issued to parties in Bibb county from the federal government for monej* paid for retail liquor lic enses, and in every instance the party obtaining the license has to make an affidavit that they were go ing to engage in the retail liquor business. The judge stated this was prima facie evidence against ev ery one of these people, An open and flagrant defiance of the law in this manner is out rageous, and there is something radically yrong somewhere When criminals can ruthlessly defy the iaw without be ing punished, our Initiated civiliz ation seems a faree. PETTIT, T, P, A„ Macon, Ga, Religions intolerance is an awful thing, and when it is combined with race prejudice it knows no limit. Late dispatches from Berlin indicate that the expulsion of Jew ish families from Kiev is going on in the crudest manner. •••♦ It seems tlfht Eugene N. Foss, the newly elected democratic repre sentative from Massachusetts, a former republican and a leading manufacturer, will lie a factor in national politics. He is firing some hot shot into the “Stand Patters. "Rather queer that a lead ing manufacturer should he such a strung foe to protection; especially when we consider tie* fact that Mr. Fuss is a representative manufacturer in the steel and iron industry of New England and there is a 4o per cent tariff duty on these articles. Commander Julius A. Pratt Post No 143 Dept 111, G. A R. Mr. Isaac Cook, Commander of above Post, Kewanee, 111., writes: For a lung time I was bothered with backache and pains across my kidneys. About two months ago 1 started taking Foley Kidney Pills and soon saw they were doing just as claimed. I kept on taking them and now I am free from backache, and the painful bladder misery is all gone. 1 like Foley Kidney Pills so well that I have told many of my friends and comrades about them and shall recommend them at every opportunity.” Taylor A Kennington Fireproof.
